As with everything the software is being improved day by day and our Table Tennis site is no exception.

This means the site will be upgrading its software from 3.7.4 (which you will see at the bottom of the forums) to 3.8.0 which is tha latest version of the Jelsoft equipment.

The upgrade gives us as Administrators new features and security but also members too.

The following are some changes and new additions to its existing software.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

vBulletin 3.8.0

Version 3.8.0 is the latest stable release.

Google AdSense Integration

vBulletin 3.8 features a control panel to allow us as Aministrators to quickly add Google AdSense to our forum and increase our site traffic, which in turn enhances the listings etc in top search rankings.

New Features in 3.8

There are many new features and improvements to existing functionality in vBulletin 3.8.0 over vBulletin 3.7.x. Here is a brief list of just a few of the highlights.

Social group discussions
Social group categories
Private message sorting and filtering
Private message history
Quick edit for newer types of content (visitor messages and picture comments)
Social group icons
Social group transfers
Private message quick reply
Private message throttling (limit messages sent over a time period)
Private message reporting
Profile privacy (limit blocks to a subset of users)
Lightbox navigation
Thread prefix permissions
Dismissible notices
The whole reasons are to enhance the site and also to give more to members within it. Such as new album features and various other things you can see in the new user cp. As with everything please ask or "have a go" if you are not sure! Everyone will endeavour to help as much as possible.

The site will unfortunately be down for a few hours no the Saturday 17th Jan 2009 at approx 2pm for around 2 / 3 hours for this work to be carried out.

Thanks for your continued support.

Regards

An Update On Upgrade ..............

It inevitably happens sometimes that members will make multiple accounts for various reasons. The upshot is as well as running the upgrade i will also be installing software that will detect and prevent multiple accounts, as well as notify the administration about multiple accounts.

How it Works
With every newly recognized login/registration, an account-counting cookie is set (or added onto) with the member's User ID. Depending on the settings, Multiple Account Detection & Prevention will analyze the cookie during login/registration to see if there are any multiple accounts.

Login Detection offers cookie-checking and reporting. Registration Prevention offers the same thing, plus more advanced features. First of all, when it prevents an account from registering, it actually moves the registrant to the Prevention Usergroup so that the administration can review the case. This also allows for customized privileges for recognized multiple registrants. Registration Prevention also has IP address detection which finds the relevant information about users and if they are using duplicate membership.

Whenever there is a detection/prevention, the modification will report the information to the administration through private messages, or a new thread.

In short if anyone has multiple usernames under ip's this will obviously be seen over the forthcoming weekend upgrade so anyone having a genuine reason please let me know before both names are deleted.

The reasons for single membership are pretty self explanatory with trust and integrity being paramount within a vibrant community such as Table Tennis Talk.
