Well played for more years than i can dare remember nowadays and yes love and hate it heres a list of ten things i hate about Table Tennis.......

1....Probably the most popular amongst players but sadly not suppliers, the price of general equipment for example rubbers and clothing but the list is endless.........what mark up is on these things?

2....People who cant score correctly or choose not to do so, we all hate scoring generally but yes its a necessary part of the sport you love to PLAY. What is the main reason most people make mistakes when scoring......well the loser stays on, meaning he or she is still going over the game they have just been beaten in !

3...South and North devide.......well coming from the coal face of the cold and bleak North we have to travel far and wide even for local events, how we could ever change that is beyond me but my gripe anyway.

4...Conditions in general are pretty poor, although in our Sunderland League (http://www.members.lycos.co.uk/sunderlandttc/) have improved immensely in the last few years. There are few "great" conditions even in tournaments.

5...Media coverage...........or rather the lack of it, the general coverage is nothing short of a joke but how we or the ETTA can rectify this is probably the answer to the universe.

6...Cheats, yes not many but it happens and yes annoys everyone. I do put in this catagory mouth tactics by various players also which is as bad as cheating by any other method.

7...Mobile phones that constantly go off within halls and matches.......we should have a rule like glue, only mobiles outside the hall or playing area.

8...Maybe we all have done this but yes its got to be in there......players or indeed coaches who never give any credit whatsoever to someone who played superior to the losing player.

9...Time Out.....hate it and yes i know some like to use it wisely, my opinion is that the stopping of the game is not needed and time between ends is enough.

10..Bad floors and lighting, i hate playing on a floor i cannot stand up or move with confidence.

Well thats my Gripes now what do we love about the sport !

On the subject of no.2 I am all for players using the Scorer machines or Flippers whatever you prefer to call them, There are far less mistakes and it makes the whole process more reliable. If you have a terrible memory like me then socring without one can be impossible to do properly and that isn't fair on the 2 players in a match!

no.5 media coverage is a joke and the Eurosport coverage is ridiculous there schedules are always wrong and they miss out vital match's even finals.

no.6. cheats should be banned from the sport they have no idea of fair play and really spoil the game for others who don't cheat.

I was in a Team once and my Team mates had this attitude: If you win they would say ''Seen you play better'' If you lost they would say ''How could you lose that'' the same 2 response's all the time. Hence leaving that Team a.s.a.p was the conclusion.

At the moment what I hate about this Sport are strong Juniors who have there names written on the back of there shirts with there flaming 25% off sponsorship with there Snobby wanna' be celebrity attitudes.

lol

nope i totally agree..............and im of the opinion equipment could be a whole lot less than it actually is. Perhaps in the future we can negociate a deal with suppliers

A bit off topic but I think it should be mentioned. UK suppliers are one of the most expensive in the World and you should never pay the full list price but only the offer price at anytime of the year. I have found Bribar to be the consistently cheapest then you have Thorntons which are quite good, If you want really good value TT gear and you don't mind waiting 1-3 weeks for it to come through then you can't beat ordering from countries like Malaysia and I have found them to be 100% reliable so far.

Im currently compiling a company list and getting in contact with a few to come to a deal or two.....will keep everyone informed of progress in this area.

Stiga pay me substantial sums to ensure that i wear rival Joola or Butterfly gear. If you saw me, you'd understand.

Aaaagh! I hate them. I'm OK on scoring until somebody puts me behind one of these things. I then have to remember which number to turn over, they get stuck after the chnge of ends so it looks like I'm scoring a cricket match and I don't have the co-ordination to be able to say the score and turn over a number at the same time. No wonder I'm rubbish at TT:thtease:

The worst thing about those scoring machines is they are usually wrecked ! so the numbers fall off half the time.....................not a good thing in my case when i forget the score on a good day !

So it's your fault!

BTW good to see a few familiar names from when I played in Sunderland. Yourself and Tony Gelder for instance. Noticed Darren McVitie elsewhere. Whatever happened to Keith Paxton?
