Good win,Dale. Are you now looking to retain the title???
The backlog of fixtures and lack of fit players seem to be a heavy weight on the shoulders of the Pengy.Could be faltering fast.

I think we (Birtley) are just about to get a 10-0 against Seaburn Dene too !!....As much like yourselves they have not responded to any of the 3 dates I gave them for the re arranged match. Bearing in Mind they called off the original on the day of the fixture. :woho:
However it gets back to a previous post.....Too many teams call off matches and then have no intention of arranging a replay....especially against a team that they are not likely to get any points from !!!!

Then the system set up within the league structure and fixture arrangement policy needs reviewing surely.
The cancelation of matches because the "strongest team" cannot be fielded should be considered un-ethical and certainly not acceptable. Reasons for cancelations should be written and adhered to or teams fined, with that system in place the tactical arrangement of fixtures would soon cease.
The simple strategy of "only two matches per season can be cancelled or re-aranged" is a simple one and can easily be applied ?

Neslc tactics of putting of matches hoping the other teams will concede as they will lose anyway . looks likely to work with 2 teams about give them 20 points.
well done lads.:tomato:

Unfortunately, this is the serious drawback to the point a set system.
If every match is played ,then at the end of the season the positions in the league would be a fair and representative standing.
As it is, every season has this ambiguous situation, that can caste doubt on the validity of prestige of the combatants.
I feel that heads must come together to come up with a more fair and reflective method.
Over to you Dale!!!!!! Posponements must be regulated.:pingbat::pingbat:

The whole system needs a radical re-think if this is happening ........... get the heads together and work it out. Simple rules clear any ambiguity up.
The point Harry is making maybe harsh but if its happening then its as i mentioned previously .... un-ethical

As stated in previous thread Harry "Pot and Kettle springs to mind" !!!!
We have played 2 games with only 2 players giving away 6 points straight away b4 the night has began, we have only cancelled 2 games due to unable to get ay team at all (only 1 player available), other 2 cancelled by other team!!!!!
We have offered 2 teams 2 dates and one was unable to take either (like wise with Birtley) the other team we are still waiting confirmation of date (1 already turned down) is this our fault ...........errr.............NO.
Come on lads dont start throwing your :pinkhandbag::pinkhandbag: around just because you are not top of league, we are trying to get our games played that are in hand in next 2 weeks before we meet yourselves.
Rules should be a win = 3 points, a draw =1 point and a loss = Nil pwoet

Mr Wilko,
to be honest iam not so sure I agree with this.
Reason being it can lead to a team (with a good number 1 & 2 and a poor number 3) who win all their games 6 - 4 except one game which they lose 10-0 coming higher than a team with 3 good players who win most games 10-0, 9-1 but draw two games 5 - 5.
Which of these teams deserves to win the league? In my opinion it is the team who didnt lose a match all season.

the issue is not who wins a local league or not, rather than is the system correct.
The major drawback with a point per match system is the fact it is open to abuse or in some cases manipulation of the points .......... this has been done in the past
example
a team has two two teams enetered in the same division lets say Team "A" and Team "B"
Team "A" is very successful nd needs nothing to survive within the division they currently in but their second Team "B" is at the bottom of the same division. Lets say the second Team "B" has to play the Team"A" to survive in the division........ the "B" Team suddenely aquires ten points from the "A" Team because they couldnt turn a Team out meaning the match was awarded to their second Team........ all a little cloak and dagger but yes has been done and quite legal too.
The ten points system is somewat dated and has fatal flaws unfortunately, having said that so does any system.

the problem of bending the rules has being going on 4 years and usually invovles same team and players nothing is done about it as the league committees are not strong enough Dave schofield tried 2 do something about it but received no support

There is a fine line to tread here....no point in upsetting people so they do not want to play in your league.....after all the idea is to get as many people participating as possible....
It does seem to be the same teams and players and we all know who they are....even the league committee know this.......but do you stop them from playing or fine them or what ??
It will come back to haunt them though as people will eventually realise that there are rules in place to avoid rule bending....they only need to be firm in implementing the rules......Its not always down to the league committee but the team secretary

On a serious note he did play well a few weeks ago against myself (i was lucky and won) but still has the "wild" shot choice with sometimes a one dimensional play style but as with everything only opinions and he is young and a great player. Maybe go with you on this one with Greame slightly ahead at this stage........... opinions

6th February 2009, 08:23 PM
He is a bit like Greame though with only 1 game and if that is not working then he goes to pot, just needs a bit mixing up, a few heavy pushes tight serves, (just like most juniors these days) :charlston:push:charlston:

windy simple solution table tennis is the only team game i know that allows postponements on a regular basis the rules should be in black and white only if sanctioned by league secretary should a game be cancelled you canot tell me that sum teams 5 or 6 games behind are playing in the true spirit of the game as these teams can draft in players from other teams in the past i have not accepted a poastponement and lo and behold the teams managed to turn out a team

Most people...myself included are just too nice to do it.....but the harsh reality is that unless there are exeptional circumstances you must say NO
You know for weeks in advance when your matches are going to be and should make other arrangements around your fixtures....

8th February 2009, 07:35 PM
Perhaps if a limit on cancellations per season were introduced? Say no more than 2? Then teams would be less inclined to cancel unless it was an emergency.
If you don't show you forfeit, simple! :redcard:
Mr Wilko
8th February 2009, 07:38 PM
yep that is a good idea!!!!!
does that mean you can cancel 2 yourself or 2 in total (both you cancelling and an other team too)
