Hello everybody, I am 16 years old, and I'm from Spain, so my english isn't perfect, although I think that you can understand me, finally, this is the important.
Now I am playing with Timo Boll Forte, Sriver EL in the Back hand and Bryce Speed FX in the Fore hand, both 2.1mm, but I think that I am going to change Sriver EL and start to use short pimples, because my backhand topspin isn't good.Probabily I'll have TSP Spectol, Butterfly Challenger Attack or something chinese mark.

Hi Alvaro !
Your English seems perfect to me and a very warm welcome to the site.
Always slightly worried when someone so young decides to change to pimples so early in the playing career but if your backhand is weak or weaker than forehand then maybe you are correct. Or would it be worthwhile trying to work on the backhand to develop the stroke to its fullest potential. The pimples i agree will maybe contain and mix the game up but will probably remain that way if you stick to pimples.......
all worth thinking about !
Nice to see you around

I am playing table tennis 2 years ago, my level is good mostly with forehand, but my backhand is too bad. When I receive the serves I have some problems ever, depends either each player. Lately I've be thinking about short pimples would be my way, the backhand stucks without spin are very effective, and sometimes I tend to defend, therefore I think that the shorts pimples let me do it.

In Spain the people thinks that table tennis is a beach sport. There are many table tennis clubs, mostly in Andalucia and Cataluña, but the level is very low respect Europe.
Lately, there are a lot of people commited for table tennis, people loves this sport.
In Seville,my city, We have a High Performance Center, so cool, but the president wants remove it.:redcard:
But don't worry the children are working hard, and I think that few years, everybody will talk about table tennis in Spain (hoppefully)
Bye!! and good luck with him young jewel, that you have for there:happy:

Alvaro, Dave Robson is one of the very experienced players I mentioned. He has been playing since a schoolboy and at 46 years of age he is still Ranked very high in England. You will always find great advice here when you need it.

Oh! I didn't know it. Then his advices are really good.
I'll continue using Sriver EL and practising my backhand topspin a little bit. If I can't and my coach told me that I should to try with short pimples, I'll do it.
While, work hard!
Goodbye, everyone are champions!!

alvaro if your backhand is not suited to topspin, then why not use short pimples.
I have used short pimples for 26 years and i have enjoyed using them,
Try short pimples with the softer sponge, less effect more control and you should be ok.
Chinese are normally harder sponge and harder to play with straight from using smooth.

Can I know what rubber are you using?
I want the short pimples mostly for attack and receive serves, but also surprise my rival with any ball cut.
SPEED: 90
SPIN: 70-80
CONTROL: 70-80
This would be my perfect rubber
I have thought about Joola Tango Ultra, Tsp Spectol, Andro LOGO, anyother better?

i am now using Friendship 802 with a 35 degree soft sponge, which does give spin and has control, I have also used spectol. Would not use Tango ultra a little too quick with not a lot of effect.
If you hit flat then spectrol is a good rubber.
You can not get pure topspin but sidespin topspin is good.

If I was going to use short pimples I would go for Stiga Radical.
They have some grip so you can still get some spin and thus can use many of the shots and techniques you have got used to. But if you struggle to hit a topspin backhand they do allow you to flat hit or punch well.

Good advice Belisar Radical is closest to the existing stroke and has the control so not much change needed but Alvaro will get more out of his Backhand.
Keep the faith Alvaro you will be good someday like your avatar !

You will not get a lot of spin from the short pimples, it takes year and years of practice and the chinese will get sidespin topspin and sidespin chop, rather than topspin and backspin.

Alvaro practice some heavy backhand multi ball sets a few steps away from the table.Hit it hard & dont think about the balls you miss.Go on hitting & try to focus more & more.In 2-3 days you will suerly get the timing & the cordination towards the ball.Play same sets for atleast 3-4 days so you can get better touch out of it.The moment you get smooth remember you gonna thrash everyone. So dont replace your paddle.
cheers
Remember - Hit the ball at the highest point .

Hola Alvaro, ¿como estas?
I converted to short pimples about 10 years ago and have had some success with them, but you must bear in mind that while they have some advantages, there are also some disadvantages too.
It is easier to play against spin serves and to block against top-spin. It is also easier to flat hit through back -spin (don't be tempted to try & lift the ball - just hit straight through it!). The pimples do restrict your variety of shot as the amount of spin that can be generated is a lot less than with reverse rubber, and so the variety of spin is a lot less. This applies whether you are attacking or defending.
I have tried all the types of pimples that you mention, but I have found that Radical from Stiga suits me better. They have a slightly "sticky" surface to the pimples and this does allow the generation of more spin than most other pimples (but still less than reverse rubber), however, they are slightly more difficult to use and are not very forgiving if you play a passive or half-shot - you must play a positive shot on every occasion, even with a standard push shot.
I hope this is of some help to you, but I must agree with Dave R - you should put in a lot of hard work to improve your back-hand technique with the reverse rubber before making the convertion to pimples. If you have weak backhand technique it will still be a weak technique with short pimples or any other rubber. You should only change to another type of rubber to enhance your strengths, rather to try and hide your weaknesses!!

Hi guys, I have tried with short pimples Butterfly RAYSTORM and Grubba Carbon (blade), my coach told me if i wanted try with short pimples and I said yes, therefore I was all afternoon practising with them and as a result I decanted about pimples in rubbers and my coach advice me it too, so I am going to hard work my backhand topspin mostly... I'm sorry about my questions for nothing, although I don't know if in a few years i'll change to short pimples.
THANKS YOU

Welcome Alvaro, at 16 you still have time to work on your backhand topspin before changing to pimps, i nearly chose this option (pimps) but realised that it would hinder the rest of my game and worked hard to improve it now i have what people call a ZOKI b/hand block and a decent topsin. KEEP TRYING
By the way your English is quality (better than some people who are English... no names Anth) but if ever you wish to speak spanish to anyone on site my girlfriend is very good.
Also i think Nadal is best Tennis player in world for around last 20 years.
