Simple answers really..........
I have played the sport for more years than i care to remember now, and those who know me will probably agree (or not in some cases !) i with many others love the sport but rarely put much back into it, this is for many reasons but usually time and business. The upshot is i decide to create a new site called Table Tennis Talk which is free for all registered members to participate in, with anyone and everyone welcome to do so.
The aim was and still is to create interest and positive feedback in and towards the sport.
The following are my thoughts and some of the various reasons its worth joining your local Table Tennis club (mine being Sunderland Table Tennis Club).
Firstly .........think about how much it can do for your health and attitude, i am a firm believer that sport is a great builder of positive attitude and team spirit, which is why when you become a member of a sporting group like a Table Tennis club you will meet very few people who not of similar views and generally good members of the general public.
The sport is one of the most popular in the world with just about everyone at some stage of their lives playing the game at some level or another, this could be on holiday or competitive, but whatever the level there are very few who have never picked up a bat and played the sport.
Cost is a major part in most activities and Table Tennis is deffinitely less costly than other sports, although harder to achieve a higher level it is possible to be successful at any level you wish to.
We therefore start to wonder why leagues in countries are getting less and less in the past years, with divisions losing players through natural causes such as age but not being replenished via young blood. The main cause is often debated but my opinion would be that there isn't one major factor but more of an accumulation of various things such as more directions and opportunities for young people to take part, meaning less "sticking" with wherever they do wander.
It is therefore down to us all to promote the sport and that means creating interest from every area, moving back to my reasons for creating the site. We all have one goal apart from enjoying the playing side, which is to make sure the sport carries on fowards in a positive direction with more and more young players joining the sport, this i think is starting to happen through various initiatives put in place by the etta and other teams of committed people.
Finally i would hope all the new members of the site give some good input creating a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere for players, coaches and indeed anyone who is remotely connected to the sport so the site grows stronger and stronger.
PS the site is new and hopefully will grow as we go along.
Regards
Dave Robson
