This shows that the top players still hold this tournament in high esteem. I bet Ma Lin wants this title to complete his CV

Just noticed that Drinkhall and Sibley/Parker are seeds in the event despite not being part of the 32 best ranked players taking part in the competition. Is this standard practice for a Pro tour to have this sort of home soil advantage? (If yes I never realised this before!)

I am probably popping in for a couple of hours with Fred on the Thursday, depends what else comes up. I don't suppose they will sell out of tickets for Thur so I don't really have to decide yet.

the entries are on a public website, so you would have thought they would have at least told the players.

The information i normally recieve quite early through various sources but nevertheless i agree informing the players would be protocol.

Hi,
Just to answer a couple of the questions on this Forum section.
Yes the organising country can ask for players to be seeded but these are limited per the Pro Tour regulations.
A provisional list of players has to be sent to the ITTF in advance of all events, this does cause problems sometimes particularly when final selections have to be made and we could have an event between the first date of submission and the final selection.
A letter has been sent to the players who have been selected and in total this is 27 players over the 4 competitions against the allocation we have negotiated.
Hope that members will attend and support our players in this fantastic event.
I am happy during the event to answer any questions you have on our great sport.
Regards
Alex

Thanks for your answer Alex. After checking the Pro Tour rules I noticed that the host country is allowed 2 seeds in each singles event, yet for some reason only the highest world ranked English player is seeded (Paul). Is there any reason for that? Should the second highest world ranked English player not be seeded as well, as this would improve our chances of progressing as far as possible in this very busy Pro Tour?

Hi,
Just to answer some recent posts.
Not sure if a Bar is available at the EIS in Sheffield but Hotels and Pubs are nearby is this an invitation to buy me a drink.
Invitation Letter to the Players were sent on the 7th October for them to respond to.
We do have seeds entered in a number of events and selection on this took place. I am sure you would agree that having players in the main draw is important but also players having matches to play in the Groups is also very important.
Regards
Alex
