As a defender i'm always wondering why fellow defenders always seem to want to take the lead role when playing someone of a similar type of game. In other words as soon as they are faced with a negative approach they assume the attackers role, in my opinion wrong as this will take you instantly out of you "most comfortable and powerfull" position.
Let the other defender have the worries and be patient "choosing" carefully which balls to attack, then making it less risky when doing so.

This may all sound strange to young attackers but us older defenders need time to think !:cool2:

Hey - Like your style. your so right - I have often played a friend of mine ( Taffy Davis ) who is a left handed defender ( about 65 years of age ) I had some great practice games with him, i'm looping ( cos i feel i need to ) he chops and defy's the laws of science - Im knackered after the third point and he's just warming up nicely.

I do laugh at myself but it helps shed a few pounds - we all seem to go into a roll play and have a need to win the point as quickly as possible.

Whilst, 11up is more a game of chance compared to 21 up
( Ok - an old argument but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it ! ) - its a game of chess as each player makes their move to test the opponent. If this takes a rally of 20 strikes, so be it. At least there's something to watch compared to the boring serve and hit, serve and hit, etc.

I guess there is also a pressure on not going to experdite - too much hastle to remember what to do, etc so creates the need for one of the defenders to up the anti a bit.

The other problem for the defender is that the technology is so stacked against them, they have a much harder uphill struggle to survive.

Gone are the "good old days" of a defender and attacher battling it out - great rallies and entertainment - this is what the public really enjoy to watch.

Ahh............memories !

My opinions so vary on this 11 up subject.........

firstly do i like it ? the answer is yes i personally do !

Having said that my game is probably geared around that system so we have to look at the bigger picture so to say, many players enjoy "the journey" of the game rather than the total result, we should not forget this as the result secondary in most cases.
Many older players as said like the chess side of the sport which is exactly why the 11up didnt suit certain players, as i said i prefer but will i change my views if my game changes or my health forces me to change.

The debate is like most of these subjects a long one with many veiws and opinions.

Whats Yours?

Well it would be interesting to hear what some younger members have to say from their prospective. Anyone got an opinion on this?
