View Full Version : Make A Decision!

I'm reading so much about this glue and that pimple, is it fair or is it folly?
Well why can't a standard of what equipment can be used be established once and for all? Then as I see it as long as everyone has access to the same equipment then whom ever uses it to the best is the undisputed Champion.
Now I appreciate that times and equipment have changed in recent years but if a firm decision on what can be used from this point forward is made then I say case closed.
Trust a Woman to come up with the solution!

I have to disagree with you on the 'all having the same equipment' point Annie, the variation of blades, rubbers and surfaces makes the game more interesting and more skillful to play, reducing the choice of equipment will only drive people away from a sport that needs the opposite.
Two of my all time favorite players are Waldner and Chen Xinhua both examples of completely different styles and equipment used to masterful effect.
For me I don't care what people play with - they can have rubber, carpet, bare wood or wallpaper if thats what they want - at the end of the day its what you do with it, not what you do it with, that counts - so i'm for de-regulation lets let people do what they want and live with the consequences.

Yes im with Mrs Nick on this one although i find it sometimes a little bit of a chore to have to "think" during the game variation is an important part of any sport and without it the interest dwindles, having said that we need to have some restriction on how far you can go in relation to developing certain types of rubber to the point of making the game horrible to watch as sadly it is sometoimes with these unusual rubbers being used.

I agree, there is no point in everyone using the same rubbers. Have you ever tried playing with these so called funny rubbers. it takes a fair amount of skill to play with them effectivley. definitely not for me !! As for having to think during the game I think it does not matter what the rubber is, you still have to think about an opponents style and play accordingly (not as you would always like to play). The same could be said for the use of glue, does it not spoil the game (3 shot rallies) !! and that is covered elsewhere on this forum I believe.

Glue should stay, why is glue being outlawed whilst rubber or game changing ruber being allowed to move in any direction it feels..................and dont bring the toxics into the argument as its been proved the case with the glue which lead to this farce was not and never could be proved ..............if you read the glue article.

I think that glue should stay and also there should be no limitations on rubbers either.
At the end of the day if you are good enough, no matter what equipment your opponent is using you should win !

i predict i will be world champion in 2008 as ive invented a rubber that makes the ball vear off at right angles as soon as it gets over the net, speeding off with 75.000 revolutions per mili second its the worlds spinniest rubber, called "spinny spin bang bang angle double fish super waldner elastic mentality" if any rubber can be used then we go back to john hilton winning the europeans because he had a daft bat, that dosnt seem right to me

and i predict the rubber wont work, with a 75,000 revolutions mili second time frame being far to low .........plus ive seen your shots mate and world champion maybe slightly ambitious !

Now why do i not believe this person ?
Daft bat being pimples i take it, lets not forget John Hylton was / is a great player also and winning in any conditions and with any equipment counts a lot given the guy was European champion. A feat few ever achieve so lets not knock achievements.

Hilton exploited the fact that there wasn't a 'two colour' rule at the time, he based his game around it, in fact his win probably contributed to the rule coming in - good luck to him for exploiting it. I think this contributed more to his success than what he had on his bat. ;)

i agree john hilton was and is a very good player, obviously to win the europeans but was it with the aid of his rubbers, could he have won it with say sriver or mk5,a standard rubber on both sides unhidden ?,my aim is not to knock anyone ,it is only to point out the obvious, his rubber combination and the fact they were hidden from the eye were a huge contribution to his success in the europeans, therefore does it detract from his achievement, asfor pimples can you imagine every player playing with long crazy pimples, table tennis would die a death it would be like watching two people playing with a rugby ball and frying pans, loads of fun thier then.i have to disagree with the use of certain pimpled rubbers, but everyone is entitled to thier opinion on this subject,do we risk the sport being attractive and dynamic, do we want to watch a ball floating about with crazy spin ,hardly tv viewing is it.

my shots arent that bad but i agree trying to kill a ball at deuce in the fifth from under the table wont win me many games but god loves a tryer and its fun.:taz:

Hey the comments are well put and yes i agree not great TV viewing, the dynamics of the sport do change when you get two of the so called strange rubber brigade...........only my words !
Defender and attacker still makes for an incredible game.
