Well were you there in the G-Mex?

Did you compete?

I have some nice footage from Jose who made a very interesting 35 minute camera blog, which is on Video VHS. I have now re-worked this to DVD and will load it for members to see very shortly in FLV so it can be seen on our download area.

You may even be in some of the footage - im sure ive seen Mr Pickard somwhere on there ............ maybe some others.

I have also been give the same type of footage of the European 94 Championships in Birmingham - with some insight into the running and other interesting archive footage. I will once again re work and upload to the site for members to view.

If you have any old footage please send to myself as these tend to be very historical and of immense value to others in purley nostalgic way of course. These can be put on DVD if you would like them saving for ever. Please ask if you have any you want re-working and saving to DVD.

Dave

I was there but thnkfully still not old enough to play in a veterans competition. I was there working for Teesport. I have to say that I went to numerous competitions over the time I worked for Teesport but that was easily the most enjoyable event I ever went to.

My favorite moment was when I turned up with my mate Steve Brophy, we got in, had a look around, and he said '' I can't see any stars' as he was practically touching Kong Linghui shoulder to shoulder.....

Dave, I could well be on it as I was there, although not playing very well as I'd not long re-started playing after a long break.

I was there, playing and working in the photocopying area, finishing at about 2am - that was an experience. (Also worked at the Commonwealth Games, Manchester, entering the TT results.)

Well if you remember mine this year it'll be a first! :cry1: I've got more chance of getting a £1,000,000 Lottery Grant for a new bat I think! :resent:

I also took a lot (I think) of still photographs.

I've just recieved an email from Dave Harvey, seems he wanted to answer to this thread, but has had problems logging on. Anyway I've cut n pasted his message;

Hi Andy,
By accident I came across a web site on Vetts where Dave Robson had an article about the worlds Vets tournament held in G Mex in 1998 entitled were you there and did you play.

I tried to enter a comment without success and tried to register but failed, but yes I was there aged 49 and played in the over 40's and was the only English survivor to get through to the qtr finals were I eventually lost to Peter Stellwatt (aged 39 but 40 in the year) 21-14, 21-15. Along the way I knocked out the next best English survivor Brian Johns. I believe Gary Baldwin & myself lost in the qtr finals? of the doubles event to Stellwatt & his (Chinese partner?) who if memory serves me right beat Peter in the final of the 40's singles event.

Perhaps you can let him know on my behalf.

Guess you were far too young to play in this event then.

Best Regards

Dave Harvey

edit wiggy; I think he means Peter Stellwag.(Germany)

A tournament which made you proud to be English.

:fcb:fell foul to "dirty tricks" by Swedish opponent in I think the last 64.

At a time I was playing well and believe me that does not happen too often.
