Its never too late to learn a new sport and excell. Perhaps the best table tennis player in the world has never picked up a bat (thats a bit deep). you only find out how good you will be by trying.

I play twice a week but feel that the clubs are focused on the children and that as I am not good enough to play in the league and too old to go anymore practice sessions there is no hope in improving.

What area are you from? I'm sure there is someone here that can suggest something.

I firmly believe never means never .........too old..............
Look at those who are very elderley then ask them how much fitter they actually are, the answer is retorical.
Too old to be a great player, still not too old in my humble opinion given many didnt develope till late.
welcome to the site by the way !

I think the sport can be taken up at any age, with level of achievement depending on what you put into it, lets face it learning and improving is solely down to the person so get on and practice i say.
