tottemham ????!!!!! Tottenham will never win the premiership while there is Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool there, and i even think that Sunderland will win the premiership before tottenham will.

I know a lot of people who think berbatov is a good player even a class player but i disagree. i think he isnt a team player and just looking for a club which will give him the most money !!

Highside - there are a number of explanations for this the most credible it appears is its roots with the shipbuilding industry - 'mackem and tackem'

...The ships were built in Sunderland (made them - 'mackem') then up to Newcastle to be fitted out (take them - 'tackum'). Hence the term mackem and tackem. I'm bored now....!!!

Not that I know much about footie or care to but wouldn't it be great if the teams were made up of locals? That the sport was played out of pride of the home team? Seems to me the fans are loyal home supporters whatever their clubs standing but the players themselves are just money grabbing Tarts that go where the money is the highest.

There are exceptions to the rule mind. Look at Steve Bull of Wolves. Not that I'm biased but he's the only one I know of who could have signed up with anyone in his prime but chose to stay loyal to his home team. A true sportsman if you ask me.

Why is it everything in our Nation seems to be about money? Where's pride and commitment gone? The word Sport suggests honour i.e. Sportsmanship, a Good Sport, Sporting Chance. But in reality it is increasingly representing financial gain sugar coated by the word Sport!

Even the Olympics to an extent. Why are Countries/Cities fighting to get the Olympics held on their grounds? Money pure and simple! How much of all the funds received are actually put back into the Sports that partake? Yes stadiums are built but how many of them are available to be use freely? It's just another profit making scam hiding behind the must honourable word of Sport!

like many other organisations and interests, sport has increasingly become devoured by the money men, they view it as a good investment so they eat it up and spit it out, taking with them the cash and the sports dignity and passion ,not all money men are like this however, some have done good for sport but i can name them on one hand.

most succesfull business men have no conscience therefore if they can see a ££££ sign they ride it for all its worth, sad but true......

Keep the faith Thorpey - he was never going to work miracles overnight.

I differ to your opinion in the fact that I'm glad he's back. Why? I hear you ask - well the bottom line is that the supporters were never going to be satisfied unless they got King Kev back or Shearer. In the meantime they've contributed to the sacking of countless managers over the last 5 or 6 years - I mean...poor Bobby Robson - how could they do that - he was such a gentleman and did a terrific job for Newcastle.

King Kev / Shearer? Well...they've got a bit of both now...so once and for all they are going to have to be realistic about the clubs expectations and not expect miracles to happen overnight. They must not look for short term fix's but rather long term stability and incremental growth in their squad and style of play and only then will they have a chance of winning anything.

It is no coincidence that the most successful teams in the Premiership are those who have had long term stability - stood by the manager - this has resulted in plenty of silverware year on year.

As a Sunderland supporter I want to see us win but I equally want to see you do well and play attractive football too - eeeer...well...as long as we finish above you and beat you when we play. Keano...! :laola:

agreed in full annie,i once asked malcolm mcdonald if he thought that a passion had left football ,he said "yes it had,and we can do nothing about it". maybe it applies to other sports also,im not sure.maybe the spirituality of sport is leaving, and being replaced by money and the things money brings(whats new i suppose)or is it that im getting older and more cynical.:bag::fcb:

Easy Wilko!!! At ease!!! Now then...where do I start on the footy front (bearing in minds its a TT site!). I know...this is only good banter and as you know I'm all for that, but....and its a big but (oooo MATRON!) - you have to define what is a big club.

If you're talking about potential and support base etc then I absolutely agree with you. But if you are talking about success and silverware then I don't. These are normally the things that you are judged on - this sets other clubs apart - a club that consistently win titles, silverware etc - bit like Thompson Insurance in that respect!!!

Now then...this is where the 'Toon' have to be realistic - as per my previous e-mails. The club talks about being a big club and hires and fires managers as if it is - always looking for short term solutions and quick fixes. Each manager coming in and promising to deliver silverware and then doesn't and subsequently gets sacked.

Its no coincidence that those clubs which have had a period of stability have generally delivered, i.e., in terms of titles of silverware.

So....the supportors have to get behind their manager as does the Director's and give them time - some of the clubs you are competing with, i.e., the Man U's, Aresenal's, Liverpool etc have done this for years. The 'Toon' have to break into this elite set (albeit again - after the first Keegan era) and be / stay there on merit, genuine competition for the title and silverware - not competition based on potential or that you are a big club.

Therefore...and I'm not having a go here - in order to do well and achieve these things, it requires patience, support and time - this might take 3 - 4 years but only then will you start reaping the benefits.

Turning to Sunderland...in the past we have been guilty of this 'big club' status too and not being realistic about what can be achieved. I think our set up now, backing on the Chairman and the Board, funding, stadium, academy etc together with patience and time will hopefully see the club progressing year on year. It won't happen overnight - no matter what our heritage was / is - you have to earn your status / spurs etc - its not a defined right just because we believe we are a big club.

Anyway....lord....where did all that come from - keep the faith, be patient, give the new manager time (and cash) and he'll 'love it' if he starts winning again.

I'd much rather see Newcastle do well (and Boro for that matter) and playing attractive football and leaving its supportors with smiling faces then not. It's better for the supportors, the region and football lovers in general - but as long as we beat you and finisher higher in the league - ooooooh YES!!!!

Wilko....over and out - KEEP THE FAITH....

Just need to keep him on the right tracks Anth - you know it makes sense. Don't worry though....there's actually some compassion there in my e-mail - I don't mind if they do well as long as we are too and we beat them.

In fact, a nice little victory at Sid James park to secure our status in the Premiership will do nicely.

Only kidding....I think its going to be a huge battle for us to survive this season - it might just go to the wire. But I'm convinced with our support, grit, determination and teamwork we'll pull through. Next season will be about pushing on and hopefully seeing finishing higher up the league.

Top 4? - I think its going to be difficult for anyone to achieve this over the next 2 or 3 years - maybe Spurs have a chance. They'll pulling together a nice little squad, bit by bit in certain positions - especially at the back. Their work rate and team spirit is great and of course they've got flair in key postions too.

Support? - same with Sunderland too - I'm going down to Derby on Saturday (we desperately need 3 points). We've totally sold out our allocation of 3,000 - with 11,000 applications for tickets. A side that has only gained 2 points away from home all season - lying 15th in the league and in a relagation battle - now that's support. Hopefully we can get the win we need, i.e., just to keep a gap between ourselves & the bottom 3.

Keep the Faith...

Keegan has a good eye for talented players as he proved in his last stint as manager of toon yes he did buy some big players for big money but he also bought players who were not rated and got the best out of them!!!!!

Agree with the statement wherby you said Newcastle and Sunderland becoming big clubs as they certainly are not yet, fan base and attendance do not make big clubs, trophys and hounors list do. World class manager, not sure yet, however i do agree the guy has done a great job at Sunderland, if he does retain premier status then success is of the order.

Aaaah bless him Wilko....give him a chance he's only a youngster (you're right like!!!). Having said that, if we can stay up this year I'll personally think we'll go from strength to strength and he'll start to attract a better calibre of player.

Then you'll see whether he's quality or not - world class? - still some time off yet, time will be the judge of that.

One thing for sure is he will come up trumps eventually (fingers crossed!) and then who knows - off to Man U probablies and then he might be world class.

what the hell is going on at nufc, they have to be the worst team of footballers ive seen play for the reputation of being good premiership class footballers, now they win what is it now 3 in a row,has someone told them they have to actually play for thier wages,or has keegans magic started to take effect,i for one dont really care as long as the wins keep coming and the form keeps improving:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

yeah well their "Good Run" will be totally undone after saturday wen Mr. Keano shows newcastle how football ssould be played!!!, am going for 3-1 sunderland.

Newcastle 1 - Owen (score 1st)
Sunderland 3 - Murphy (1st for Sunderland), Jones (next 2) or Richardson (3rd)

hey anth you can tell you are still young mind you live in a dream world 3-1 to sunderland?? i will show my ar*e in fenwicks window if that happens!! yeah sunderland are a average team and if newcastle were still under allerdyce i would be worried but with keegans new formation and the team pulling together i strongly believe that the Toon will win, all be it i am looking forward to a good game and the toon moving further up the league with another win. i prodict a win for the toon with owen and martins scoring oh and maybe a goal coming from Viduka :woho::woho::woho:

owen can take on any defenders never mind 2 mackems!!!!!

He can take on most defenders but being 3'5" and only being fit for 2 matches per season has its drawbacks. If you want to watch proper football up there you can always watch Match Of The Day.
