View Full Version : Local Nearly Men
Locally whenever people talk about players who were very good in the past the names Michael O'Driscoll and Kevin Beadsley come up. Both seemingly gave up the game for various reasons when they had the potential to go a long way. Are there any similar characters in your area?

Some of you may have heard of Billy Gleave. Massive potential, horrendous attitude.
Strange how the two often go together.
Was he in Manchester? Which era was that Craig?
This might sound rude but I don't know any players from the Manchester area, is there much happening over there? Someone put me right.

Yes, Billy played in Manchester mid to late 70's. We've got one or two decent players around, Brian Clements is doing pretty well at VETTS level, Phil Biggs from Tameside, Paul Ciccelli from Bury. Andrew Rushton has put in the odd appearance in the Oldham league. Mark Ramsbottom, Andy Jackson and co.
I know quite a few of those players but have never heard a TT player actually say they came from Manchester before.

Most actually come from towns and cities around Manchester like Salford, Bury, Bolton etc and play in the Manchester League as well as in their more local leagues. Brian for instance plays Bury, Bolton, Manchester and I think Stockport.
