View Full Version : Obsession

Do you think tt players have more of an obsession with our sport than people do with other sports ? (This could be a research topic!)

What do your partners/parents/friends think about your obsession with tt? My Mother used to say I had table tennis fever!

I may be over-generalising (as I only have one to go by) but I find that wives don't understand the obsession particularly when there are kids in the equation.

I think anyone who is serious about any sport in particular, wether it be Table Tennis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_tennis) or Football or indeed anything will have an obsession for it .......if not the player, coach or even viewer isnt as serious as he or she lets on.

My belief is that all serious sports enthusiasts will usually go to the end and further to participate in their own particular sport, mine just happens to be Table Tennis but could just aswell be any other i would be as keen at anything i played............probably my downfall in some respects given im sometimes a little "over competitive" and worse ...........but thats another debate.

Hey my wife fully understands JKC and absolutely backs me in the process so i certainly wont complain in that area............Jose you start the strangest topics .............but yes we love em !

I think it is a sport for life. On few different levels:

The camaraderie,the crack,

The competition, both single and team.
The beating the best players ,the end of a dream.
The young pretenders, the super vets,
The edges the nets the stupid bloody lets.

The nice hotels and the late night benders
The stress and the strain of the close five enders

The glue in the room ,the crack of the bat,
over 40s now and getting fat.

you can do it you can ,win for the team,
no you lost you tit,it was only a dream
Hurra...

see you at doncaster...pints are on eddy.

Great post that man and exactly what Jose means i think when obsession comes to mind, showing a poets talent with inteligence in the mix----- who is this man.

Joking apart yes i am like a lot who play the sport and at any level "obsessed" but i do think if anyone who plays serious was less than obsessed then what the hell would be the point of ever participating ---- at any level.

Level is not important but keen and effort are paramount.

Harry sums the enthusiasm up as usual with a very appropriate poem!

How many players have the same enthusiasm though, with the sport of Table Tennis being the be-all and end-all ..............not many so Harry we salute your attitude and indeed your poetry to match!

This is along the same theme, but a slightly different track:

Are you a Table Tennis Talk Junkie?

I think I am! I log on first thing in the morning to see what people have written during the night, couple of times during the day when I come in from somewhere, before I go to bed at night. I used to watch the tv or read a book. Should I put this new activity into the category of "learning" or "communicating" rather than being a junkie! Seriously, Dave, Annie & co, you have opened up a new world of table tennis!
