Is it possible that we can have a big tournament in the north of england,a tournament with very high prize money to attract allcomers, and give our sport a bit of publicity in the media, even if it is just north east news etc,or am i dreaming. what tournament brings high prize money in britian ?

just a thought>

Newcastle has a grand prix tournament each year at eldon square, but I think the problem with the NE is its too far from the South to attract all of the top players. Perhaps if Fantasycheesebasin put his hand in his considerably deep pockets and put up a lottery size prize fund.......and then I woke up.....

im aware of the grand prix ya cabbage, i meant (as im sure your aware mr windybottom) that a tournament of a high magnitude ie £20.000 to the winner with a lowering prize money scale. if we can put satalites into space surely a ping tournament with a descent prize fund could be hatched with all the wealth thier is stagnating in fat cats pockets in the north east. but maybe im thinking in cuckoo land ,,,,,,,just want higher asperations for our beloved ping instead of the regular year in year out standard tournaments. maybe attracting the big names to turn out.

I think that's a great idea and should be given a lot of thought about how it could be achieved, say, for next season. Could do a lot for the sport in the North and the UK! Let's go for it!

Good idea. Bottom line is....no one else is has done it yet....but perhaps YOU could be just the person.....stop waiting for someone else !!!!! ...now there is a challenge for you.

Joking aside..................... thought is my garden and seeds do they grow..............slowly i do agree but plant them i am...............

Objectives and aims will be stated in the next 3 to 6 months, although it seems a while away its not in the big picture as we all know. The site is like many new things in any sport or organisation, members need to be involved and also bothered as to the eventual outcome even if it is "short term" although i class 6months through 2 years being very short term in the world of development.

Thats the whole organisation problem, many have inovative ideas or will talk about issues such as this (which are great) but seem to be left to the few who will put the figures and findings together...........praise has to given to Tony and Shirley Gelder for setting up and organising the Sunderland Masters.

Any area would prosper when a large tournament is organised and carried out every year with new players attending and media coverage giving the sport better coverage but again this needs pro active people getting the troops rallied...........not easy as we all know in any sport which is why many sports struggle.

Hi Dave,

TT Scotland (http://www.tabletennisscotland.com/) and WoSTTL (http://www.wosttl.org.uk) have not yet published the results, but I will let you know as soon as they have - hopefully soon! Unfortunately I did not manage to go myself this year!

Results have been posted on the WoSTTL Website (http://www.wosttl.org.uk/PlainText/PlainText.aspx?SectionId=2a4c3f75-9e57-4cbf-ba1c-6556576be8d1).

And yes Darren McBuscuit won the vets.

And yes - there is life north of Watford (or should I say Hartlepool)!
