Well i just got back (on Sunday night) and yes straight on with some information and news from Doncaster British League VETTS...........
The report below is from the day one but i will add and update from day two when i have written it, with more picteures from it.
The first days play in the second and final weekend of the Bribar Veterans British League took place in Doncaster yesterday
In the Mens Premier, leaders Thompson Insurance A still lead but now only by one point after they were held to a draw by DML Woolwell, In a tremendous match Woolwell got out of the blocks quickly with a 3 sets to 2 win from Paul Whiting over Keith Rodger. This was immediately followed by another 3 set to 2 victory for Woolwell this time it was Mike Short beating Dave Goulding, Geoff Salter for Thompson Insurance clawed one back with another 3 set to 2 victory beating Kevin Buddell.
The draw was conceded in the fourth game Paul Whiting beating Dave Godbold, Keith Rodger and Geoff Salter both had 3 set to 1 wins in the last 2 games to avoid Thompsons conceding more than one point.
Trailing Thompson Insurance are Potters Leisure Resort who had an untroubled day beating DML Woolwell 5-1, Holme park Development 5-1 and Unity Northampton 4-2. All will probably now depend in this division on the clash today between the two leaders.
In Womens Premier, Colebrige BC extended their lead over BATTS PPP by one point, Colebridge beat Saracens 5 games to 1 and HEL ladies by 4 games to 2, they were hover held to a draw by Lyncrest, the Lyncrest effort was spread across the team Elaine Short beat Linda Simpson 3 sets to 0 in game 2, Margaret Welsman beat Eileen Shaler in the fifth game by 3 sets to 2 and Shirley gelder finished off in the sixth to seal the draw with a 3 set to 2 win over Linda Simpson.
Chasing Colebridge are BATS PPP and they disposed of HEL Ladies by 4 games to 2 but were held to a draw by both Lyncrest and Ashford Ladies, like the Mens Premier this one will probably depend on the final meeting of the two contenders today.
In the other Mens Divisions, Bribar Nomads lead Division 1A, St. Neots lead Division 1B, Thompson Insurance B lead Division 2A and BATTS Bulldogs lead Division 2B. For the Women The Bribar Bunch lead Division 1 and the 4 J's lead Division 2 (ETTA)

Sundays talking points
The Mens Premier was fought over right up to the last game, in the match between Potters Leisure and Thompson Insurance. Kieth Rodgers gained a win over Phil Logsdon but unfortunately for the Insurance men Eddie Smith lost out to Clive Carthy giving Potters the tital in 2008.
In the Womens Premier it was much more clear cut, Colebridge finished as Champions 4 points clear of runners up BATTS PPP. In their final match Colebridge were dominant, a consolation win for Helen Sheilds over Eileen Shaler in the final game was the only bright spot for BATTS in a 5-1 defeat. Karen Rodgers was top of the individual averages in the division with a superb 19 wins from 20 games effort.
In Mens Division 1A, Bribar Nomads 1 were dominant, winning the division by 4 clear points from their nearest rivals Thornton Sports, the result of Mens Division 1B was even more impressive as St Neots romped away with the Division 6 points clear of second placed Tameside, at least St Neots did finally drop a point or three to be more exact, in five years on their trek to the Premier Division, these three are the only points St Neots have dropped, which is exactly the reason the new system of 1a / 1b and 2a / 2b was designed to "fast track" certain teams which were at a higher standard than the division they would start in, meaning it wouldnt take 5 or six years to make it to the premier. The downside if there is a downside would be some teams such as the second, third and fourth place could lose interest given that there is only one team promoted from each of the divisions. One or two seasons will be the bench mark as to wether the system is good or bad.
Womens Division 1 saw The Bribar Bunch as Champions with Ellenborough Ladies as runners up 3 points behind.
Womens Division 2 was a little more closely contested and the 4 J's ran out Champions with a 2 point cushion over runners up RTA. Mens Division 2A provided another display of Thompson Insurance dominance as the B team won this division with a comfortable 4 point gap back to Reading YMCA in runners up place. Mens Division 2B was by far the tightest of all the divisions, but even here BATTS Bulldogs pulled away at the end to take the Champions trophies by 4 clear points from runners up St Mary's TTC, the other 4 teams were separated by only 2 points and it was Lillington who ended up at the bottom of the pile and must join Wolves Vets from Division 2A in the Veterans National league next season.
