No need Jose the site has so many things i myself am just beginning to see all of it !
I believe that Sunderland has some special history. Didn't Mr. A. Donaldson who won the first English Open in 1926 come from Sunderland? How do you celebrate that feat up there... is there a memorial anywhere ? I read somewhere that Sunderland was one of the strong areas for table tennis in the early days. Well, you've got 18 years to grow a new champion to celebrate 100 years... and by then there will probably be an English Open again! Is that a challenge!

Yes your right Dave - in fact if I remember rightly Mr. Ransome actually came and did a very nice speech in 2000 to celebrate our 90th year!!
Another great link as well is that it was also founded on my birthday (3rd March)!!
Also Edgar Reay (who used to coach me and you sometimes at St. Gabriel's Coaching Centre) also played for England. On that subject there is also the Edgar Reay Memorial Trophy - which I believe is awarded every year for contribution to the sport, i.e., either playing or administration.
I thank you
Spongey!
I've found out that the Plymouth League was formed in 1903, so Sunderland might be next! Will ask Rob Sinclair at the ETTA if there are any official records.

Jose you continue to amaze me !
Everytime i think ive made a step forward your one ahead, great stuff and its what news and events are made of.
Sunderland is quite old though!
Hi! Have checked with Colin Clemett who is involved with the ETTA Archives. He says that the information is a bit scrappy - a few leagues mention in their handbooks the dates of their foundation but others are not all that interested in their history.
So here's a challenge: if a league you play in, or a neighbouring league, is older than Plymouth 1903, or Sunderland 1910, please let us know. The ETTA could trace the origins of most of the leagues formed since the ETTA was established in 1927 from the handbooks, but it appears there is little or no record in the ETTA archives of activities pre 1927. Wouldn't it be great if Table Tennis Talk could establish some early history records through the Forum..... bit of a change in subject from glue and 11 up! Only trying to be funny! Seriously though, if you don't know when the league was formed, how are you going to celebrate 100 years ? Sunderland will be having a great party in 2010.
