Sad news .............

It is with great sadness that we have to report that Mike Johns (former ETTA Manager and ETTA Deputy Chairman) has died.

A great Character and indeed a great player also, who i last saw at aldersley Wolverhampton at the Midlands Masters a few months ago, and was still in good humour and spirits but sadly did not overcome the illness.

The funeral service will be held on Monday 11 February 2008 at 1.45pm at St Mary’s Church, Church Street, Weaverham, near Northwich, Cheshire and at 3pm at Walton Lea Crematorium, Walton, Warrington.

Unfortunately I only had the pleasure of meeting Mike on a few occassions - he's was good company and always up for a laugh with a little twinkle in his eye.

I know his brother Brian a little better and my thoughts are with him and Jan - but I hope both Brian, Jan and family take some comfort out of the fact that Mike will be at ease now and free of any pain.

I would like to just leave you this thought if I may - I was not what you would class as a close friend or anything in that I only met with him on a few occassions. But I bet you there are many like me (both in and outside the table tennis world) who will have been informed about this sad loss and will have shared similar thoughts to me...'oh yes Mike I knew of him - good lad, always up for a laugh and good fun to be with'. What a legacy to leave behind - Brian / Jan - be proud and honoured that you had the privelage to share so much time with him and remember his legacy he has left behind.
