I have just spent an enjoyable weekend in the company of Pauline Long. She has been playing TT for 45 years and had a spell of never missing a game for the Northumberland County team in 14 years, a remarkable achievement. She is the press secretary for Northumberland still.....I'm getting to my point now......As many of you will know she has an unusual style (Thats being kind) and as she will readily admit does not win many games these days. It is to her great credit that she turned out last weekend at short notice to once again represent Northumberland at the age of 65. Her enthusiasm for the sport remains undiminished and her attitude, even though she knows she is unlikely to win an end never mind a game is second to none. She is good crack, very funny and can hold her own in the bar !!!. People like Pauline are the backbone of the sport in this country, I take my hat off to her.........Remember, Table Tennis is not just for Christmas....Its for life !!!!

Do you know anyone in the same mould......tell us about them :girl:

Great post and great person concerned, i firmly believe we all as players have a role to play in the development of the sport or any sport you are involved in. Wether you happen to play at a certain level is irrelevant. We all could do well to remember that Table Tennis is under the "COSH" along side many other "fringe" sports which attract less prize money...........my reaction to that would be that Table Tennis is far superior in skill and speed, many in other sports would argue against.

The post by Windy is a great reminder that we all need to do more in the promotion of the sport, aswell as participation with level of skill meaning little if nothing as numbers are the sole key to survival, which as we all have realised (to late) as with many sports that numbers have dwindled badly.

Not a lost cause by no means but action is needed if the development of the sport is to continue, so be positive and be a servant aswell as a player.

Good post Windy
