Does your local league accept that Time Outs can be called?

The whole Time Out isnt or hasnt to my knowledge been implemented yet (probably wont ever be either) in either the Northumberland or Sunderland League as yet, with the current set up i doubt will ever be. Some would argue is there need for it .....locally i doubt it, but some would argue there isnt a need at any level once a match is underway then play it through apart from the obvious breaks.

Sheffield league has said unoffically that they will not be promoting it. The handbook states that we play to ETTA rules. Which when you read the ETTA rule book says that we play to the ITTF rules.

If thats the case then Time Out should be allowed.

This issue came up at a meeting in a local league in the West with some players saying exactly the same, correctly stating we play as the post above states but the league completely went against it saying it was not in their leagues best interest. Surely you cant ignore the fact we play by the same rules ? or can local leagues use the argument "we choose what we feel is best", personally i do not have any clue but maybe someone does.

I don't think there is a need at local league level.....County or National league or Grand Prix Tournaments, yes.

Can you imagine Fantasy calling a time out to coach Gary Sangster at a critical part of a match......Explosion !!!!! or most local league players probably would not know what a time out was.......is it a chocolate biscuit ?

thats what i normally have, but are you saying local leage players are not worthy of having time outs, still not explained why?:whistle2:

I just do not think it is neccessary at local league level. It would be an invitation for numerous interuptions to the play over a 10 set match.....ridiculous !!!!

Quality statement Dale - can you imagine?

Picture the scene...9 all in the 5th after 4 previous ends of endless pushing...NOT!

Sangster: 'Time Out' - Thorpey: ...'Wooooooooooot!!!! - did I hear correctly - I've just had a hotdog, 3 savoury pies and a canny little Cadbury's Boost - slightly rippled with a flat underside...! Mind you...I suppose I could make a little bit room for a small box of Time Out's - it would be rude not too...! Sangster, you can have the match I was bored anyway...and I'm feeling a little bit p p p p peckish...!!!

Altogether now....only the crumbliest, flaky as chocolate...taste like chocolate never tasted before...!!!

To Goddy - on a serious note I'm with Dale on this - I don't think its necessary in our local leagues - having said that the standard in these leagues are as good as County and soem of the British League. On no...you've got me all confused now - I'll have to have a Time Out or a boost or a flake or a HUGE Pie....!

how is it ridiculous. a 1 minutr break for each game...1 break in a five set match? if your 9-9 in fifth with rod roberts ,unlikely admitadely he normally wins in 4, would a break not come in handy. the point is ....it is part of the rules ,we should go back to 21 up five serves each with hard bats, or stick to the rules.....a time out should be allowed, because it is part of the rules ....
the average age for our team is about 45 ,god knows we need any excuse for a rest.
lets not have towelling down, ll
ets not have let serves,
lets just go to the pub, hurra.
How are juniors suppossed to pick up the finer nuances of the sport, the psychological aspects of the game, when to have atime out etc,,,lets just be dinosours.like all the local yokels.....
Im off down the pub now...

Never called a timeout in my life. I once had a bad experience with them whilst playing British League though.
10-4 up in the 5th a member of my team jokingly said have a timeout which I decided not to do. Lost the next couple of points and got this non-timeout in my head and couldn't think of anything else. Should I have had one, shouldn't I..... Went on to lose 13-11 missed out on quite a few ranking points because of it.

It's like local league football not playing offside......

Let there be timeouts, I'm sure some of the olders ones would use it to have a "rest".

So if time outs are allowed in local league you could have 20 time outs during a match. Thats assuming its the best of 10 sets. Some teams would do this either for a laugh, or to anoy the opposition. I still do not believe it should be allowed. Next you will be saying we need qualified umpires to score these games, with scoring machines and a deputy umpire. Can you imagine local league football taking place without a Referee or linesmen (sorry referee's assistant). Where do you draw the line ??

There are points to be made for both arguments.
Realistically [and unfortunately], returning to the local league after having attended a ten-day Europeans or Worlds event, i found that incorporating some of the 'professional' extras into the match could not be handled [mentally] by run-of-the mill 'social' players.
So, i would imagine time-outs would be treated with equal hostility by some people, who would think that you were 'being funny' or were weirdly intense.
But, then that poses the question: should such people's preferences be ignored. After all, some 'characters' are unhappy whatever the situation.

Time out is a "tool" but would be wasted at local level, but i do agree with Harry the option should be available anyway given we are playing by the same rules all that would happen is those who wish to ignore the time out rule would do so and those who wish to use it, well simple really but we should all play by the rules or remove the time out at all levels.

Surely the most important thing in any sport is encouraging youngsters to take part. If they can call time outs in any tournament they go to and have them called against them its only right that they have the same experience in local league. Otherwise how will they ever learn when its best to use them and learn to deal with them from an opponent?!

Local leagues are always resistant to change. Given that most don't play by this rule which is in the laws of the game, is it any wonder then that the number of people playing in local leagues is dwindling and less younger players are wanting to play in them?!:taz:

Let there be timeouts!
