With the top English players Paul Drinkhall and Darius Knight away in China, it was down to Gavin Evans, Liam Pitchford and Damien Nicholls to compete under the banner of English Boys Team. The team managed to reach the last 16 at the Hungarian Junior Open, where they met Romania 1, unfortunately going out 1-3. It was Liam Pitchford who managed to pull out their sole win (3-2) when he faced fellow Europe Youth Top 10 competitor Hunor Szocs.
