Harry,
I would like to echo your views on last nights matches.
There was a great deal of effort expended and some fine performances from all concerned.
Some of the points would have been worthy of inclusion on the video upload site that is being talked about, not least by one of my team mates Mr Penman.

Not sure when summer league starts.
As you know i do not partake in drinking alcoholic so i'll stick to orange! :rol:

Well....its different things for different people - rich tea, hob nobs, ginger nuts (oooooh matron!). It's worth a thread in its own right - but it'll have to have a Table Tennis twist - oh I know a 'club' - oh that's golf though isn't it!!!
You can start the thread cos I'll get wrong...! - oooh no I've gone all shy .... in fact I'm starting to feel a little sheepish...! :sheep:

actually andy i was annoyed as once i had lost the match to mr wetherby,a certain person came to me and said " tactically you played him wrong" , no point telling me that after the game (a bit of coaching may have helped)thats what i was annoyed about, and didnt lose my rag during the game.:fcb:

I dont see anything wrong with getting annoyed at losing especially if you can channel it to your performance on the table.
It shows you care and want to win.

Just got in from deliverin pie's.....thanks for the mention Harry. Played 27 ends last night, and boy did I know about it this morning. took twice as long as normal to cycle to work. It took half an hour just to get on the blinking thing. Then out in the pie van after tea.....absolutely knackered. Played quite well for a change. played the Slasher twice, won one and lost one....usually would lose them both so quite pleased, although I was using our lucky net. He took it quite well, a true gentleman. Had an epic game against Penman, just losing out in the 5th.....Having crawled up the stairs I am just off for a rub down with a damp table tennis news......I am never playing 2 matches in one night again.....So do not ask !!!!:cry1::cry2::nono:

Nectar Goddy...!!! Good banter - see you Sunday - I'm not playing (didn't have a doubles partner.... - but that's a different story!). Only kidding...I'm going to the derby match tomorrow and I think I might end up being terribly, terribly drunk....Mr Grimsdale...!!!
Good luck to everyone entering the tournament - should be a really good day: Goddy, Wilko, Eddie, Roppa, Lash, Fishy, Tony G, FCB and loads of others including the young Barella's too. Hopefully pop in for a couple of hours an the afternoon
Enjoy - Spongebaaaaaaarb!!!

I agree Dale is the Fitness OLDIE in the country without a doubt, tt wise Ill play 3 matches in an evening if necessary but then I am a lot younger than him. I manage to conserve energy by just standing around and doing what is required to win hahaha. So Thorpie number 3 then, Im just glad that you all still recognise I am no.2 at Birtley still!!!!! Goddie still the number 1 although I wonder how much longer his body will survive the punishment!!!!!

...Goddie still the number 1 although I wonder how much longer his body will survive the punishment!!!!!
That's easy cut out the 3 pies and 4 cans a guiness a day and he'll double his chances - but then he'll have to overcome Eddie's nets and Mr. Thompson's jokes!!!
....did I send you that joke about...........YYYEEEESSSS YOU DIIIIIIIIIID!!!!...'

Are your local league tournaments successful? We have just had the Sheffield Close which had the worst entry ever. However the Final saw Stephen Horsefield beat Matt Kenny 3-2 in a fantastic final.
What events attract entries to your tournaments. Any ideas?
TheMoose
03-04-2008, 09:21 AM
Many local leagues are suffering the same plight Goldie with the "older" players still there or there abouts with entries seemingly dwindling every season, which is probably the same story in the Sunderland tournament although someone may say differently.

i would like to contest the fittest man in the league after my local league match last night against Silksworth.
DaveR's dad (Alvin) was playing (i am not sure how old (or young) he is) but he will put the majority of players to shame and never stops running
THE FITTEST MAN IN THE LEAGUE IS ALVIN ROBSON!!!!!!

I have no doubt windys fit he could probably compete in the tour de France but playing twice in one nite he is an apprentice compared to Gordon Bissett whoom 30 years ago competed in 5 leagues and on many occassions played 2 games in one night, plus Gordons game are a lot longer than windys and Gordon did this with the help of the odd cigarette between games. I think he was still playing in the Dorset league

we played birtley the other week and me and Mr Fonte didnt start the last game until 1030pm and that is just 3 man teams think we would all need to invest in sleeping bags if we had 4 man teams

I know Gordon well and can quite believe he played in more than one match. And you are correct in the statement that he is still playing down South now that he has moved to be closer to his family. In my younger days I also played in several leaguesl. The Durham League, Stanley League, The Philadelphia League and the Northumberland. I have since played in the sunderland League but not at the same time as the others. Obviously some of these leagues have gone to the wall due to falling mumbers. I was never in the house.....but was not married at the time. If only those leagues were still around....out of the house every night.....A dream come true Ha Ha
