:covereyes:the ittf are bringing in new rules to stop the proliferation of chinese players competing for other countries..making the time limit much longer before they can play for a new country..
I think this is a good idea as many countries especially the ladies teams are made up of purely chinese players, detracting somewhat from european competition..
Fair play if they have lived in that country for 5 years or more but not immediatley, but not to make a fast buck..:resent:
what are your thoughts, werner shlager thinks it is wrong to stop the chinese playing...

I think it is good for the game as you would see all the top players at the worlds etc. Obviously if only the top 3 or 4 played for the chinese team the rest would not get a look in. Also as our players often go on training camps to china, would it not be better if they were spread around the world helping other countries develop.

Hmmmm......... If it's a country against a country competition then I say the person should be born there to qualify to play for that country.
If you want to see the best players in the world then hold a different kind of competition!
I just don't feel comfortable about people moving to a country and then receiving benefits no matter what kind within 5 mins.
O and just so that you don't think I'm being prejudice, my parents moved to the UK from Hungary in 1956 and worked hard and long before becoming nationalised and accepted. Things are very different now it seems.

the only reason they go around the world is so they can play in major compotitions as they can not get into chinese team
my great grandad is irish i should of gone there i might of played at olympics !!!!

Long overdue! It makes a mockery of International Matches when they are composed of Chinese players who are not quite good enough for the own national team

:rocker:exactly, so do all brazillian footballers go to play for another country just because they have millions of great players..I dont think so..
thats what we have to try to accomplish a massive base in any sport,so the cream come to the top..
saying that we have millions of footballers but were still crap...:bag:

I can see your opinions. You could be right, however limiting one born chinese player per team could have been better. It's good for national players to practise against chine as not everyone may have the chance to train in China.

In Singapore, most national team players are from China. There were cases of people leaving after receiving medals amd getting their monetary award. I'm not gg to name them. Anyway if you look at the big picture, its not just an issue we face in table tennis. Other sports like soccer also has this problem. If we are going to stop the Chinese from helping other countries, people are going to bring out soccer as an example and this problem will never see an end. My feelings are if these people are able to bring some glory to the country and possibly help in the overall development of the sport in the country that he or she is representing i see no harm in it. But having said that i do hope that Singapore can groom out some local lads sooner rather than later...

dont think you can compare soccer, you cant just come in and play for england, germany etc>!
what if you had trained all your life:eg 7 year old to 18 and achived a ranking of 4 in england ,having agood chance of playing for your country, suddenly 2 top chinese players arrive and play for the national team, what is the point of training so hard? this could happen in every country, even germany where they have massive strength in depth, only boll would be garaunteed a game..
im glad they have ammended the rules,we might get to see more europeans playing for their countries..
I have no prob if the foriegn players been allowed to play after 5 years residence.Waldner could be eligable to play for china in 5 years,as he lives there now...

Something I am considering, I think the vatican city is the worlds smallest country.......perhaps I can get a game for them. I'm sure I could beat a load of priests and apparently that pope bloke is absolutely useless even though he uses long pimples. Could even get a sex change and play for their ladies team. (This is only a bit of fun, Catholics please do not be offended, I'm sure the Pope really might be quite good)

think you would struggle playing the pope windy he can disguise the ball quite well in his white robe!!!!!! lol (as b4 no offence)
I dont really agree with Harry. Who ever has the skills should be able to play.

i think your missing the point, tt is played on a national basis at worlds olympics etc,
yes chinese players can play in any team in any country any time for large amounts of money,,,fair enough!!!!!! but not for national teams after a few weeks, if they could ,we all might as well pack in as they have 12 year olds who could lash most top euro players never mind english
.....
Like ronaldo can play for man unt, like saying he can play for england as he played in our league for 3 years,,,
LUDIOCROUS////////////...............
The England team is now

Harry, you're not far off with that thought. I once read of efforts to have a one-off inter-league match. I think it was for charity though. i,e. English Premier Vs Serie and so on. Also I think you could put a case for Ferdinand and Gerrard.
Mr Wilko
