If you're not going to Liverpool to watch the competition but may be interested in helping those with any disability play table tennis, there is a Disability Awareness Training Day at Ormesby on Saturday, 15th March from 11 am until 5 pm to be conducted by Judy Rogers, the ETTA National Equality Officer. Contact me if you would like further information.

The Liverpool International event attracted four Paralympic Champions, seven World Champions and Six Regional Champions.

Great Britain had 30 players competing at the event (8 Beijing bound players and 15 Talent squad members).

The team won seven medals

Gold - Mens Class 3 Team (Arnie Chan and James Rawson)
Silver - Womens Class 4 Team (Sue Gilroy and Claire Robertson)
Silver - Mens Class 7 Team (Farrell Anthony partnering Sam Shur of Israel)
Silver - Mens Class 6 Team (David Wetherill partnering Nico Blok of Holland)
Bronze - Open Mens Wheelchair - Arnie Chan
Bronze - Open womens Wheelchair - Sue Gilroy
Bronze - Class 2 Womens - Dzaier Neil

For both Arnie (11th seed) and Sue (9th seed) winning bronze in the Open Class was a fantastic result.

Some great performances with Arnie Chan beating the World Champion from his own class twice in the event, Sue Gilroy beating the current European Champion in her class and Dzaier Neill beating the current European champion in her class.

The next event for the Beijing Squad and a small number of the talent squad is the Slovenian Open at the end of April

The Disability Awareness training session at Ormesby on Saturday was really great. We had 24 people taking part - Judy Rogers said she usually had 12 - 14 people at these events, so the North East did well. I am sure everyone found the technical and practical sessions very worthwhile and hopefully this will prove beneficial in the months to come. This morning we had a great turnout at the disability session at Ormesby with about 9 tables in use. Have some good pictures which I will try to post.
