Why stop there? I think a 12 inch net would be the best thing for my looping game. Bring it on.

this idea has been doing the rounds for years and always seems to get pushed to the kerb and another one is brought out (i,e bigger balls 7 ban of glue) when they banned glue the first time this was in the pipe line but nothing came of it!!!!

Eddy Smith will be panicking as he wont get as many nets as he does now at the vital stage

Not its not been there since the beginning of time. I don't know exactly but the height of the net some decades ago has actually come down...

What's the height at the moment?

The height currently is 15.25cm (6 inches) but over the years it has been as high as 30cm :Ahhh:

Personally I think a lower net makes for a more skillfull, exciting game. I mean 'How low can you go' :woho:

I think the net height should have been raised instead of the ball size, this would have saved problems in my opinion.

Net size is deffinitely worth raising, it would make it more fun prices of nets would be rediculous because the extra height couldnt be taken up in the standard net so probably a none runner.

Alan says... the net was originally 6.3/4" but was reduced to 6" to reduce the number of matches that were dominated by the long pushing rallies. The idea of raising the net again is not new. It has been discussed for a number of years. It is the ITTF who would need to take the initiative and they would need to carry out a series of experimental tournaments with the net at, say, 7" or even 8". The likely outcome would be that the defenders would have more chance and that the rallies would be longer. It could even bring back the defensive game at the international level, but until experiments have taken place, it will be difficult to predict the outcome and the height which would produce the most attractive matches.

So really we are saying there is a big argument for the raising of the net in Table Tennis, especially if the rallies were to lengthen and points became more interesting with specatators being more involved. This is probably a better idea than the ball size given what Jose is saying.

The defender v attacker was and is still one of the best matches to watch or does anyone disagree?
