Instead of just leaving notes on Table Tennis Talk, would it be possible
to have a proper discussion about table tennis with other table tennis
players.
You could arrange a date, time etc.

I agree, although the logistics dont always allow this given some are further a field such as Guy in the states and some other members in other various locations, but the meeting and discussion can always be arranged as group meet at a specific date and time suitable to many people with a destination central to most ..........

Although I don't think I could make any significant contributions to matters concerning matches, practice methods or even strategies I appreciate the chance to voice my opinion. I'm assuming that I was used simply to illustrate that with members of this forum residing in different time zones it would be difficult to do what David is requesting.
Because conference calling is beyond my capabilities for this particular topic matter I suggest that if space could be allocated for a chat room to be constructed perhaps this could be an alternative. The only draw back to chat rooms is that for hunt and peck typist like me the train of thought would be stopped at a station or worse derailed wanting for a reply.:bag:

The only thoughts i have on a "chat" area is that it can distract from general posting which sometimes happens on forums i have visited (none as good or as bright as this i might add) but why not add a one if possible. The addition i say "just" add one as i have no idea how to do this, i think best left to those who have the knowledge.

I agree with your concern about getting off tract on a subject matter, but I think it could work if people getting on board can keep on subject matter and everyone takes part in being a moderator to keep the subject matter in check. I am vary interested in seeing how well this is going to go over.
As a suggestion I think that there are a few thing that should happen before the first chat takes place. These things would be more or less like a business meeting.
1. Make a list of topics so the individual can know specifically what is going to be talked about.
2. IF possible take a poll to arrange a time and or day for maximum participation.
Of course this may be a little difficult if for some because of the time differences.
3. Have a cutout time for the poll so as to be able to move on to the next topic.
4. Have a word or saying that can be used to keep people on track with the subject matter.

Again only suggestions
