The P&O Ferries Talented Athlete Programme falls within the ferry company's £250,000 sponsorship of Kent County Council's Sport, Leisure & Olympics Service.

A range of initiatives sponsored by P&O Ferries aims to enhance the long-term development of sport in the community, capitalising on the momentum generated by the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012.
P&O TAP fits in to this strategy by making grants to five Kent athletes who have been highlighted to us through their national coaching bodies, working closely with the county council's talented performer unit.
At this stage in their sporting careers the athletes are certainly starting to stand out. But it's their dedication and determination with a view to 2012 that has really caught our attention.

They're not quite household names yet, but they're certainly inspirational role models. The ambition they demonstrate to perform at the very highest level possible means we think they're ones to watch and we hope to help them come a little closer to fulfilling their potential with our support in the years ahead.

The challenges these five athletes have chosen to embrace are difficult to comprehend except by those who regularly rub shoulders with elite performers. As they pursue their goals they'll try to give us an insight into their training, their progression, and no doubt some trials and tribulations that will come their way too. One of those athletes was none other than table tennis player Lewis Gray.
