The SF World Schools' Table Tennis Championships are taking place this year in Malta and we are hopiong to bring you daily round ups of the action, here's what happened on day 1.

Round 1
Boys' National/Selected Team
England 0 - China 7. Chris Doran took Yang Muxue to 5 sets losing 10-12 in the 5th. Wing Yung Chan lost in 4 to Lin Guanghai, but the China were much too strong for Chris, Wing and William Maybanks in the other games.
Girls' National/Selected Team
England 5 - Bulgaria 2. Good start for England girls against Bulgaria with Emma Vickers (2), Karina Le Fevre (1) and Melissa Wright (1) with Vickers/Le Fevre winning the doubles, giving England a sound 5 - 2 winning start.
Boys' School Team - Peniel Academy
England 2 - Czech Republic 5. Peniel Academy boys (Billy Deville, Jack Cleminson, Oscar Selfridge) found the going tough against the Czech Republic, going down 5-2. Oscar and Jack recorded the wins for Peniel.
Girls' School Team - Peniel Academy
Luxembourg 6 - England 1. In the Girls' School section Peniel Academy (Rachel Jamieson, Charlotte Callcut and Rebekah March lost 6-1 to a very impressive Luxembourg, Rachel taking the one for Peniel.

Round 2
Boys' National/Selected Team
England 7 - Puerto Rico 0. England boys recovered from their mauling by China to record a 7-0 whitewash against Puerto Rico. Chris Doran, Will Maybanks and Richard Andrews plus Wing Yung Chan (and Richard) in the doubles were all unbeaten.

Girls' National/Selected Team
Slovakia 4 - England 3. Emma Vickers kept her unbeaten record intact in the 4-3 loss to Slovakia, Karina Le Fevre taking the other game. Emma and Rebekah Griffith losing out in the doubles decider.

Day 2
Round 3 - Boys/Girls National
Boys National Team - England 4, Belgium Flanders 3.
England Boys maintained their promising start when Richard Andrews with 2 wins led England to an impressive result against Belgium Flanders. Chris Doran and Wing Yung Chan both added 1 win each to the score line, after Chris and Will Maybanks lost the doubles 7-11 in the fifth game.
Girls National Team - England 5, Turkey 2.
Emma Vickers retained her unbeaten record with 2 more singles wins and was ably supported by Karina Le Fevre (2 wins) and Melissa Wright (1 win), as England eased past Turkey with a comfortable 5-2 win.

Round 4 - Boys/Girls National
Boys National Team - England 7, Turkey 0
England Boys sealed a Semi-Final place with an outstanding 7-0 victory against Turkey. Chris, Will and Richard remained unbeaten, although 3 of the 6 games went to 5, whilst Wing Yung Chan and Will took the doubles in 3 straight.

Girls National Team - England 7, Puerto Rico 0
Rebekah Griffith made her singles debut in this match and won both her games. With Emma Vickers again remaining unbeaten (she has now won 8 out of 8), Karina Le Fevre with 2 wins and Rebekah and Melissa Wright taking the doubles, England easily demolished Puerto Rico 7-0 to lie in third place.


Round 2 - Boys/Girls School
Boys School Team - England 0, China PR 7
The Peniel Boys' Team still continued to struggle at this level and found the going much too tough against favourites, China. Billy DeVille, Oscar Selfridge and Andrew Lee gave it their best shot, but only Billy was able to extend the Chinese player past 3 games, going down 8-11 in the fourth against Chen Xining.
Girls School Team - England 4, Czech Republic 3
Peniel Girls' were able to put yesterday's opening loss out of their minds with this exciting victory against a strong Czech side. Star of the match was undoubtably Charlotte Callcut, with 2 wins and, ably supported by Rachel Jamieson and Rachael Anslow, with 1 win each. With the match delicately balanced at 3-3, Charlotte held on to defeat Sarka Skopova 11-5, 7-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-5 (who had earlier beaten Jamieson in 4), to secure a final victory for Peniel Academy.

Round 3 - Boys/Girls School
Boys School Team - England 1, Germany 6
The competition gets no easier for Peniel, with a heavy defeat against Germany. Oscar saved the whitewash for Peniel with a win in 4 against Marius Keil and was unlucky to lose in 5 against Fridolin Forster. Billy and Jack Cleminson battled in vain, both losing in 3 and 4 sets.


Girls School Team - England 1, Greece 6
Peniel Girls finished third in their group following the defeat by Greece and now go into the play-off for places 9/16. Peniel's solitary point was gained by Rachel Jamieson who defeated Anita Chatsatrian in 3. Rebekah March and Charlotte Callcut struggled in the match, but Charlotte went down 11-6 in the fifth against Vasiliki Rapanta.


Round 4 - Boys School Team
England 0, Sweden 7
A miserable day for the Peniel boys came to an end with their defeat by Sweden. They now go into the play-offs for places 9/19, with the aim of finishing as high as possible. Billy, Oscar and Jack gave their all, but were unable to reach the fifth set in any games.
