View Full Version : Ormesby host British League Premier Final Weekend

The Ormesby Table Tennis Club are hosting the final weekend of the British Table Tennis League Premier Division this weekend and the Club’s 1st Team are playing 4 matches in the competition.

The Ormesby Club are mid-table with 9 points from 10 matches played. The Ormesby squad for this weekend is: David Meads, Michael Marsden, Justin Ma, Nigel Eckersley and Eddie Smith.

Ormesby's first match on Saturday is against the London TTK Greenhouse Club. The TTK team includes 3 internationals – the England No 4 Andrew Rushton, England No 5 Gareth Herbert and England No 4, a lady player, Natalie Bawden.

The second fixture is against the team in 2nd place, BATTS Team Peniel. The BATTS are linked to the Peniel Club in Essex, managed by former Ormesby international Nicky Jarvis. In the BATTS team are Wang Zheng and Craig Bryant, who have both played for Ormesby the past, and Shuying Xu who was part of the Hartlepool Club exchange with China from last season.

On Sunday morning Ormesby host the team in 3rd place, Scottish champions Drumchapel of Glasgow. Leading the Drumchapel Glasgow team is Welsh international, Ryan Jenkins and Stephen Jenkins, plus Scotland’s top emerging player, Craig Howieson.

Ormesby’s final match is against the Nottingham club, Sycamore whose team includes Matthew Kenny, Kevin Dolder and Shaun Marples.

Top of the league currently are DHS London Progress who are on track to win the competition for the 10th time. The London Progress team includes Hong Ming Zhang, Jiang Chang Hong, Colum Slevin the former Irish champion, Terry Young and Jason Sugrue the Irish No 1.

Play starts at 10.00 am on Saturday morning with 3 rounds of matches. The other two sessions start at 1.30 pm and 5.00 pm. Play starts on Sunday at 10.00 am, with possibly the best session including the match between London Progress and BATTS, the 2 teams at the top of the league, with the final session being at 1.30 pm on Sunday afternoon. Spectators are welcome - no admission fee.

From Middlesbrough, take the A66 (east) past the Riverside Stadium on the left and turn right at the large roundabout where there is a McDonalds on the left and Nissan car dealers, Evans Halshaw on the right.
Follow the A171 sign post to Whitby and Ormesby. This becomes Cargo Fleet Lane. Continue on Cargo Fleet Lane, straight on at the small roundabout and straight on at the next set of traffic lights. Continue on the A171 until you see a cemetery on the left followed by a large apartment block painted blue and cream. On your right opposite the apartment block you will see the Ormesby Table Tennis Club building behind some tall green railings. The car park is at the front of the building.
