Right, I'm just wondering if anyone plays in glasses?
Currently both myself and my other half wear glasses for driving and going to the cinema, but I have an eye test coming up and may well have to start wearing glasses full time; Sarah thinks she may do too. Anyone have any experience of it? Do you get a blind spot where the rims are?
I'm not totally keen on the idea of contacts, though if it's just for playing and I wear glasses every other time, that may be a decent enough compromise.

I had that problem and playing at the highest level in England, I used contacts from the start. The rims will get in the way, when you serve you tend to look over your glasses and also depending on the lenses you will get a reflection from the lights.
Contact Lenses was a no brainer for me, Also going into pubs glasses steam up, contact dont.

I wear glasses and cannot wear contacts due to a dust allergy. I can honestly say that I have never had a problem playing wearing glasses. Sometimes however you do get sweat on the lenses, but a quick wipe with a towel soon sorts that out.

Same here, only wear glasses for driving and playing so not worth my while having contacts. I use a larger pair than my driving ones (ooerr, missus!) with a light plastic frame so they don't slide around on the rare occasions I move. The onlt problem I sometimes have are when there are badly shaded low hanging lights and I get some glare.

I wear glasses but have those daily contacts too for when I'm involved in sporty activities or out on a hot date! They are so soft and easy to use I would definately give them ago. Why not book a contact lens consultation at the same time as your eye test? They will let you walk around for an hour with a pair in so you can see how they feel.
The best thing about them is for 30 contacts it's around £21.00 but the expiry date on them is usually 5 years away so an occassional user like me only buys a pack once a year.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 8... don't do contacts... and now that presbyopia set in... it's becoming dubious....
One thing I don't recommend... playing with bifocals..... No.... no no. That doesn't work well at all.

Glasses must be quite a bind when playing Table Tennis given the movement, twisting and turning involved.
Contacts surely is the only way to be sure there wont be any mishaps?

As long as your glasses fit okay they wont slip off when you're playing. At least mine haven't in the 5 years since I've been playing in them or when I've played tennis or badminton in them either. As long as its a non-contact sport there shouldn't be a problem.
As Windy says the only problem I have is sweat on them occasionally between points. But that one is pretty easily sorted out (and a useful tactic if you want to slow your opponent down an an important point in a match!).

I've been wearing them for a few weeks and I think I'm kinda used to them now. I'm not good enough to warrant getting contacts especially for it.

That was my reasoning too!

Contcts are so cheap these days. I buy 30 pairs for £21, they are disposable and usually have an expiry date of around 5 years in advance so you haven't got to worry about not getting to use them.
Personally I couldn't be bothered with wearing them everyday but when going out or doing physical D.I.Y. they are perfect!

I can't fathom sticking anything in my eye... so I've never had contacts. One thing I do recommend... an adjustable strap that affixed to earpieces of the glasses... to keep them in place whilst playing.
That works well for me.

In Winter, we Oslo Premier Liga players have big problem with so little daylight hours.
I wear infra-red night vision goggles to play when i playing at some venues. Perhaps North of England and the Scotsland experience similar problems. Our English-born Lord of Tryvann plays wearing a monocle.
This is making him look a lot superior even when he is losing. His smoking jacket is also being an exxtravagance too.

The North of England can be dark in any months never mind the winter ones MM so yes you maybe right on this occasion.
Infra red - good idea although ITTF may have some machine to recognize you are gaining some advantage from them !

Incidentally (not that it matters in local league), is the rule for that the same as towelling down? Every six points?

Towelling down rules.... I would have never thought of towelling down prior to an incident the other day that cost me a vigorously volleyed point.... as whilst playing a large drop of sweat found it's way on to the surface of my glasses... and proceeded to obstruct the view in the left eye.
Towelling is one thing.... are there rules against windshield wipers on one's glasses?
