SPORTS NATIONWIDE APRIL ‘08
A monthly sports programme featuring a wide range of Irish sports events and sports stories, with a community link
Freeview on Setanta Sports,
A GTV Sports Production
Supported by the ‘Broadcasting Commission of Ireland’.
This month on Sports Nationwide:
GAA:
We visit Marino in North Dublin, home of newly crowned AIB All Ireland club football champions St Vincent’s. There, we explore the great history of the club, the work they do in their community and also learn about their friendship with fellow finalists Cork's Nemo Rangers.
Point to Point racing:
We travel to Tinnakilly race course in Co Wicklow to spotlight the sport of community based Point to Point and we meet with some of the people involved with one of Ireland’s most popular Point to Point events.
Surfing:
From Ireland to Australia, we speak to new World Surfing Champion Mick Fanning. Although raised in Australia, Mick considers himself very Irish. After beating the legendary Kelly Slater in the event that took place in Brazil late last year, he is now regarded as one of the best surfers around.
Table Tennis:
We visit the recently held Stiga Irish Senior National Championships. A new chairman and a fresh approach are hoping to bring this sport back to the fore. We also caught up with Ireland's John Murphy, Fiona Dennett and European Veteran Champion Colm Slevin.
Showjumping:
Kill International Equestrian Center in Co. Kildare recently hosted the Profile Park Guidam Grand Prix. 84 horses lined out for the event over a testing course and Sports Nationwide was there for the action.
