I think you are right, given some of the team selections he has made this year. But the title is won by putting your strongest team out in every match over a season......you have to show respect to all teams in the division. I've read somewhere that all winners and runners up of respective divisions will be invited to a presentation evening at Cramlington TTC which will take the format of, a night of table tennis with a quick handing out of any trophies.

Leagues are won through consistent performance and usually not when the top two teams playe one another. Many times the top team may lose to the team in second place in most leagues but the most consisitent will or should make the grade in the end, well hopefully !

harry u r on the same wave length as me ladbrokes closed the book in sept on Romans team and yet he chose the sunderland league in preference over the northumberland league or did he think his fringe players could still win ask dave swann
in my opinion he picked up the lower title did he have a wager on birtley or was the win bonus 4 the tin man 2 much Birtley formed from the old gateshead tt club have infact dominated the league since the mid eighties
the northumberland league side have a much better record in the likes of the alec brooke trophy and the wilmott cup though i understand sunderland have sum good juniors
his superstar veteran team failed in their bid to retain the national league title
mind u if he put up the price of his policies up Liang and slevin might b available

Harry we beat you twice in northumberland league twice this season proving that if we wanted it it would be in our cabinet not yours, we do not have a big a team as birtley (in depth of quality) but Roman's main aims for the season were the sunderland league and the cup which we are now in the final of after beating some good teams on our way, oh and i am still unbeaten in both leagues and cup games hurah!!!!

next season we will go for northumberland title!!!!!!! :woho::woho::woho:

Mr Wilko, Birtley played the whole season with 3 core players. cannot really count the 3 matches played by FCB (50%) and Jacko only played 5 before moving back to Warwick, Chris Loxton only played twice. Belafonte has played for the last month on one leg and Gary with one brain cell. Admittedly if yourself, the tin man and Dave Blackburn played every match you would have walked it. I believe Spongebob and Alan thompson also played for your team as well. Getting back to your previous statement regarding strength and depth no comparison with Birtley. PS...we have offered the Tin Man 2 pints of Lager and a packet of crisps per week to come back into the fold.

:fcb::thtease:Said he missed the crack and fun for playing for Birtley, feels like a racehorse playing every game for washington..(more like a donkey on blackpool beach).
Your team is far stronger in depth also, you lacked the commmitment and will to win,
gary upped his average to 86% from 70 and Dale to 73 % from 64%, you cant knock them for improving,if they had the same average as last year you would haave won the league quite easily, yes you beat us twice but it is in the games away to newton where no one wants to play the lads showed their improvement...credit where its due,we always have about the same averages,me you and ed its up to your team mates to get the sets that count.well done windy and mad gary...

Winning any leagues or divisions is about commitment and effort, which can be said of football also and pretty much all sports as without them both there is nothing but a trophy at the end of it, which should never be any reason to play in the first place.

Windy....I suppose I did play a few times - twice as many as Mr. Blackburn and only 2 or 3 games less than Eddie - Wilko played 5 or 6 games in the whole season - feel a bit cheated by the comments. I've worked my socks off in this league and Sunderland league - it was only in the last couple of matches where I had a couple of poor losses. The rest of the season I think I did particularly well averaging around 70% which is not bad for a number 3!!!

We lost the league for not being able to turn out our full squad against the mid table sides - nothing to do with commitment or strength in depth but more to do with commitments in our private life, i.e., family or work!!

I pride myself as being a massive team player - win or lose I always give 100% in matches - turn up early (most of the time!) and support my team mates throughout their matches - so its a bit disheartning to hear if Ed, Wilko and Dave B had played we would have won the league!

Yet he chose the sunderland league in preference over the northumberland league or did he think his fringe players could still win ask dave swann

If the fringe players comment is aimed at me I think its a cheap shot!!! I've played all over the region this season in both leagues and cup competitions often at very short notice - a couple of hours in some cases when I had arranged to drop out due to family or work commitments. The night in question was one such case where I arrived 45 minutes late then went straight on without a knock - nothing to do with being a fringe player!!! More to do with working late - being in the tyne tunnel for over an hour and having no knock.

Having said all of that - not to take anything away from Dave Swan he played very well and good luck to him!

well said sponge you have been a great team member and as you stated always try your socks of which is more than i can say for some of them Birtley players, and of course you have to keep your better half & kids happy (which is more important lol)

would also like to state that our team are in the FINAL of the cup after giving every team we have played a start, but have pulled together as a team and done exceptionally well to get this far and fingers crossed will end on a high by winning it !!!!

as said sponge well played this season and lets carry it on in to the final!!!!

COME ON THOMPSONS A!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if thompson tt teams r that well organised how cum i of his top players travelled down overnite after working a shift to play next morning good preparation for a top division vetts match In the past teams like N shields gateshead byker to name a few were better organised than Washington/thompsons the tin man is always late when Dave blackburn played at gateshead etc he always wanted to play his 3 straight off
I agree birtley first team r late starters but that is just the trend these days When it was 4 a side u had to start at 7 otherwise sum teams would claim or u would have to stop the game at 10 sum clubs still have 2 finish at 10

Sorry Chris (Spongey) I did not intentionally set out to understate your efforts over the season. You are indeed an asset to any team and I was not questioning your commitment or playing ability (one day even I may get the better of you). You have just confirmed the argument for Washington having greater strength and depth. Perhaps I should have said that if Ed, Wilko and yourself had played all matches.......Going to stop groveling now.......Good luck in the cup final.....Windy

Now now boys this all started with a tongue in cheek statement by fcb.
We all know we are the most disorganised team in the league, we were lucky to have marko for first 6 games as fcb was not available, then luckily chris loxton became available, our victory is down to dale and gary playing every game and playing better than the last few years and thompson not gettin wilko to play more in northleague.
We all know if sponge, willo and ed played or blackbot the league would be yours, but there are always variables, like work, families etc.
There is no better team men than wilki or spongey ed is good in his own way,
Next year i will be out for a while, gary is courting strong, mark and chris have left so we desperately need a new player.
Relegation could beckon....
Could mr t spare a few players?
now lets all go for a pint on wed at the coach....on sponge(as usual):fcb:

yeah it was just a bit banter things like that have been going on 4 years i used 2 and still do have a few sherbets with frankie mitch but playing against him was world war 3 his serves were the worst foul serves on the circuit and his team mate Andrew Clark complained about people moaning about mitchy serves till he played against him in a doubles match at a tourney and mitchy foul served him i sure the umpires in those days didn;t bother most of the time with foul serves Clarky lost didn;t shake hands and stormed away totally out of character.
another interesting story was when gateshead were playing to win the league at North shields I think it was windy tin man and myself against benny mal not sure of
3rd player we were winning 6-3 when the lights went out shields tried 2 get the game played again from scratch but it was overuled benny was 1 of my good mates then
so no offence meant i noted u travelled quite a way to play and know you give it 100%

Hi Maaaatey - no worries Windy....I've been away with work over the last 3 days so it has been my first chance to reply to your message. You know me I'm not normally one for biting but I did feel as if I needed to say something and (and this is no excuse...but) Sunderland had just been beaten by some team up the road 2 nil.....!!! :taz:

Its all good crack though - it just shows that we all care and are passionate about the sport.

I think we might be struggling in the final as we're playing Kevin and the young Barella's and I'm not sure what each others handicap's are - having said that it will be a close match which hopefully we will just win!!

To be fair to Mr. Thompson that was because Ed couldn't afford to lose 2 nights takings from his taxi job not because he had forgot to ask Ed or that Ed didn't know about it. I believe they only lost the League in the very last set of the very last match!!!
