View Full Version : Can wilko become European Champ
Mr Wilko
19th April 2008, 12:46 AM
As some of you will know i am away to Poland to play in the European Revenue & Customs Tournament from the 14th to 18th of May (giving Harry & Ed a chance to become Durham Champ on the 18th) I have a strong chance of coming home with a European title under my belt being No2 seed in the mens singles and possibly No2 in Mens dbls.
For a change i am taking it seriously by starting training at Birtley and also dieting which i started of well by loosing 6lb in 2 weeks any tips to help me succed will be greatly appriciated.
I will let you all know how i have done on my return (hopefully with some quality photosto go with it,) lets see if we can have a northern European Champ!!!!!!
All your support will be appriciated. :rocker::woho::rocker:

you would have won the mens doubles if the selecters of the team were genuine John Crawford should b your doubles patner remind your team manager it is run by RCSL not him any way enough of politics. Best of luck in the event and I am arranging a space in the trophy room at longbenton

BRAN! I've just recently lost loads of weight by eating the right things regularly, then I hit a plateau. Where I had two wheat-a-bix in the morning I now have one and a hand full of Allbran.
From my first bowl it has increased my metabolism and the weight is coming off again. Leave it to soak in the milk for 10-15 mins before you eat it and it blends into the wheat-a-bix and you hardly notice it's there.
It's so important to eat regularly and have a balanced diet. But as an aid to health and wellbeing on the inside.......BRAN!
Good luck for the championships and we definitely would like to see your trophies in the Gallery.

Sounds like someone is may be eating healthier…………..good for you.
My 2 cent of advice, keep hydrated. To much soda and coffee with its caffeine content will dehydrate you. If you are prone to leg cramps, keep some tonic water available. The quinine content in tonic water will help with leg cramps.
Congratulations. I hope you do well in both events. Looking forward to seeing some photos

Best of luck.....My advice is that you need to get more practice under your belt and a little fitness training so you don't run out of steam as the tournament progresses. I remember loosing in the semi's of the doubles in the European Postal and Telecoms workers Championships a few years ago in Sweden.....It was one of my biggest disappointments in table tennis not getting to the final. ....You need to give yourself the best chance you can......so if you are serious about winning, practice, practice, training and more practice as well as more training are key components in doing well. A little luck also helps....Enjoy the trip and the crack....but above all bring the trophy home with you.

hey all this support is bringing tears to my eye's i didnt think you cared as much!!! lol
thanks to Guy for the advice about tonic water as i do suffor from cramp in my calf's in between games.
the standard of play is like the north east local tournaments with about 5 strong players capable of winning but with the current holder from Hungary (won it for last 5 years) who is a semi pro but is beatable (and yes Harry i will be using plenty CHO's & ALLE's)
i will do my best to bring trophy home and i will publish any photo's onto site........... plus thanks for all tips on dieting and training training practice & training any more will still be taken on board.

Well Dave's latest trick is editing video footage and adding music to it so a lack of sound will be no problem. And yes it would be great to have you videoed in the final. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d29/hungarianwonderwoman/TTT/mrwilko.gif
And I have to say The Windmill's post brought tears to my eyes too! :cry1:

well hello everyone i have returned from my travels and as my better half told you i did very well but unfortunatley was unable to bring home the mens singles title which has once again returned to Hungary!!!!
on my journey to the final i beat the no1 Polish in quarters(who said he was ranked around 25 in Poland) and the no 1 Lithuanian in semi's.
In the mixed we had a difficult group being drawn against the polish No1's were we lost 3-0 but won others to qualify in second place, we won our quarters with ease but played the Polish no2 in semi who defeated the Hungarian no1 in quarters, we got off to a good start which continued for a very good win of 3-0. In the final we had to play the Polish no1's again but this time the story was different after taking the first 11-5 we threw away a 10-4 lead in second eventually loosing 14-12 to the delight of the Polish crowd, after a good start in the 3rd taking that game 11-6 we carried on to dominate the 4th winning 11-6 (big CHO) bringing Gold back to England.
Then the icing on the cake was taking the team event Beating Lithuania (who got 3rd) then Hungary "A" (last years winners) to get another Gold for England.
So 2 Golds 1 Silver and a 5th (mens dbls) was a good day at the office!!!!!!!!
