Just a quick idea for news and other areas but what does anyone think of us - Table Tennis Talk developing a quarterly news magazine with lots of topics within it. Im open to all ideas and would appreciate some feedback on this one.

It would certainly need to offer something different to the current TT news. Not so much a competitor publication, just offering a different focus.
I agree that a chance to read more of what the average Joe (not just the Kennedy) thinks would be interesting and more likely to generate letters and discussion. The current TT News has a lot of topics which do not hugely impact on the vast majority of players and thus does not prompt much feedback.
I would also say any publication would need to be a bit more neutral than the FTT which is currently circulating. A stack of negative comments with no constructive points is a bit of a turn off.
Maybe a local league section.
What are local leagues doing to try to generate or retain teams and interest ?
What rules are they adopting and why ?
Issues they have but do not know the answer.
Sources of funding and advise on applications.
Equipment advise (especially with potential rule changes).
Unusual incidents or anecdotes.
A wider section could offer points of view on things like individual membership.
If anyone goes to the national council meetings some feedback on any issues raised.
Whispers and rumours about future changes to the game.
Thoughts and feedback on grand prix events or junior ranking tournaments.
Individual features could be a different league each time (a bit of history, golden moments, future plans).
All of this would need the contributors. Again looking at FTT it looks too much like one person's point of view.
So I think you need some people willing to contribute and a willingness for balance.

Where is local on the 'net?

using some points that have been brought up on the website would be very usefull. i find general discussions relating to points of views regarding equipment choices and what the "every man" thinks of different issues within the sport, ie the glue ban and dodgey rubbers, much more interesting than how well a bunch of people i have never met or seen play before did in a grand prix tournament last weekend. so i suggest looking back at some recent topics from the website as a good starting point when looking to generate ideas for the magazine.
Also a section providing detailed focus on local leagues, looking at all levels and divisions within the area, would provide more interest for a wider variety of people. It's always good to read how the top level local players are doing in thier respective league, but players who may not quite be at that level yet but still doing well in their respective standard, would benefit from a bit of recignition from time to time. i think there is a need for more of a "people's" magazine within the sport and this website has an excellent basis to do this, three cheers for table tennis talk, "HIP HIP...............................

Maybe a small section for hypothetical situations can be thought up to see how different players would handle a the situation and what they think the end results would be. I sure that many of the veteran players might have a few things they could share as a hypothetical.
This could be used to try to get people to contribute and exchange strategies or at the vary least a few thoughts.

I suggest bimonthly or quarterly in order to ensure the material will be interesting. Not that much changes in a month I'm thinking.

Ive looked at FTT and far to one tracked and one persons only view. I think this type of site represents a wider view and has a duty to be that way. The newsletter or mag would be a great addition.
Belisar is correct a balance is needed to have good newsletter or magazine.

I agree and get this started with some research and information gathering as these things need a base and structure etc.

This is an excellent idea. We are going to china this year so perhaps we could include an article in it.
Every two months would be better... more time to get good stuff in it...

I've seen various Newsletters in my lifetime and agree bimonthly is definitely more practical.
OK Who's volunteering to help provide material or even be Editor for the New TT Talk New Letter?
