View Full Version : What rubber?

For many years I have used the Primorac minus offensive blade, with Mark 5 MK 2 on the forehand, and short pimples on the backhand. The rubber generates great spin, but lacks control. I changed to Neos sound (with speed glue) which is great for control, but lacks the spin qualities of the Mark 5. (However, the Neos is very easily damaged)

I am thinking of changing to a Micheal Maze blade, for a number of reasons: better control, larger sweet spot and the new glue rules, it's faster.

Which of the 2 rubbers I have mentioned do you think would be best with this blade?

My style is forehand looping attack and blocking/hitting on the backhand.

With a hard carbon blade like the M.Maze, I think it is better to go for a softer rubber. The Neos sound is softer than Mark V M2 and would be better on the M.Maze but in my opinion Bryce or bryce FX would be a better option.

M Maze blade plays well with bryce FX so i agree with TS on this one, playing with Bryce FX now and its pretty soft.

If your a looper, then dwell time is a key element - As a looper myself, I use Komman Speed. Its a very forgiving rubber, excellent control and the best bit is that the ball dips as it spins - not as fast as Mk 5 but your blade will compensate for this. Dare i say it, but i've defied the laws of science with this rubber. Te He - especially when you add Spin Max to it.

I do think blades and rubbers are so much a personal choice it gets very hard to recommend.

I love the Maze blade and am currently using Neos Sound which is nice. I find it is good all round, it helps the feel in the blade when on the defensive and provide good spin for my loops. I may well try Almana Sound over the summer, both of these are soft and with the glue ban I wonder if the extra Almana speed may help.

Never really got on with any of the Bryce rubbers myself, I think I found them a bit harder than the Neos or the Almana but a lot of peeps I know like them.

Do any of the major UK based suppliers do bat testing evenings anymore ?

try the waldner range of rubbers ,perfect for forehand topspin attack with control and brilliant for blocking on the backhand with that bit of speed but control.......best rubbers ive used in 25 years.:dance3:

My favourite rubber has to be Waldner and Donic Desto. It's fast and has good control. :dance3:

Hi. Thanks for the comments. It appears that the choice would be either Bryce Fx or a Donic rubber, Desto etc. I have tried both in the past, but did not find the spin generated was enough, or is it me. I am tempted to go with the Neos, but I know it will still lack the spin of the Mark 5.

I take the ball very early and as such sometimes catch the rubber, so hence the softer rubbers do not have a long life with me, and the expense!

Perhaps I should try the Mark5 without glue!!!

Try Mark V Soft you might get the best of both worlds.
