I suppose the same could apply for any sport..
but at the end of the day it i the player who can produce that little extra when it matters will triumph..
so allsports are losers sports..:static:

I guess you are right. I realise that the games that i lost are mostly due to my own unforced errors which is rather unfortunate. There is a definite need to reduce your own errors in order to be a better player

The modern game seems to me to be more about risk.
Attack or counter attack when you can and if you do so 10 times and hit 6 winners then you have a good chance of winning. I see less and less people who are willing to grind points out.

The unforced errors are in every sport Desmond but we should never be to harsh on ourselves to think it cant be improved upon. The errors can be eliminated if practiced upon but the passion and the little bit extra is slightly more complex as some players will always prove there worth when it counts. If truth be known i am a player that could do more in the "extra" stakes and i am realistic with a recognition of this in recent times but i am trying to change mty whole game / extra etc this forthcoming season with some radical changes to try to push that further.
Not many players will sit and reflect and be honest enough with themselves as to say what they could do better as appose to what they are damn good at.
Maybe the need for a new thread in this are with a " what am i weak at in the sport of Table Tennis"
You could list many.........attitude, effort, concentration and the list grows the more you think in depth.
How many would truthfully say what they feel is another matter.
ps welcome Desmond ! glad you have jumped right in !

Back in the 70's when I played Tennis, a lot of the game was based around percentages, and I suppose that is the reason why I play TT the way I do now and have done for the last thirty years. At my peak (depending on the division I was playing in), I would work at getting 9 out of 10 loops on the table - cue very sore arm the next day - how many winners just depended on the ability of the player chopping the ball back.
When I lose now it down to not playing percentage shots and trying to short cut to a quick winner - cue frustrated team members.

I think you have hit the spot saying that most players do not reflect on their mistakes. I do believe that this is an essential part of the whole training process. I think for most people this could be really difficult so i always encourage people to find a close group of friends to review your mistakes and your strength. That way, everyone can benefit and learn from the whole playing process.

a bad workman always blames his tools at end of day if you make errors then 9 times out of 10 you loose!!!!!!! (more training required)
