Im all worried !

Lol actually ive put this on because the County is struggling as usual for entries to be self sufficient.

Please support your local tournaments in any area you live as this is a vital key to leagues surviving.

Why don't they charge 50p or £1 at the door of all competitions for spectators? I know we are trying to encourage the sport but we pay that much to go to park at a Car Boot! It's a minimal fee and could go toward making the whole event a more pleasurable experience. :static:

How many spectators do you get at these events ?

I must be going to the wrong ones, all I usually see are people lost on the way to the lavatory.

Mr Wilko
05-05-2008, 08:36 PM
maybe £1??? like you said its just the same price as a parking ticket for 1 hour!!! lol

Annie
05-05-2008, 08:44 PM
Well that's something again isn't?

These competitions are not advertised anywhere near enough. And what if they are? I think the Game needs to employ a less subtle and snobbish approach and make the whole event more enjoyable to watch. We have mentioned about the fact that semis and finals take place on any table rather than clearing an area and making it central stag. Then follow it up by a proper presentation.

It very much seems to me that the final stage of the competition is not give the respect it deserves. Players train and work very hard to get there and this should be recognised much more don't you think?

Mr Wilko
05-05-2008, 08:49 PM
normally the finals are played when everyone else has gone home as some people who organise local tournaments have not got a clue, that is no disrespect toward them as it must be very difficult but why not play open singles/dbls etc straight through to finals then have them staged after lunch so people are still there????

how long does your hula hooping last??? LOL

i have only been playing a short time, but i found it quite difficult to find a club that didnt have an "old boys network" operating within it. the competitions arent really advertised and snobbery amongst the more established players is rife which makes it hard for outsiders to either involve themselves or take an interest in the sport at competition level. seems they want to keep the tables free for their use on practice nights. hope its not the same everywhere!

hey bammo guess you are not from north east the crack is great on match nights and also training nights between all levels of players.

no im from the south east, my club now is very good and has some people who dont mind slowing down their game to allow me to pat the ball over their heads and consistently hit the net, bless em!! My work place aquired tt table recently as well, which has brought a whole new angle to the game, people who didnt even consider the tt before are having a go and enjoying it.

Well this is great. TT is not just for the contender but for anyone who wants to get/stay fit. A great sport to partake in what ever your level might be.

Nice one Bammo

I think the location of some tounaments makes it hard for spectators to go and watch the Vetts nationals is held at thornbury about 30 miles from Bristol good conditions but even a canny trek for a local league player 2 watch and i can't remember seeing many spectators except the participants Newcastle grand prix in city centre and quite a few spectators attend

Mr Wilko

more spectators than entries i think Robstar!!!!! lol

any way my prediction for the durhams are as follows

Mens singles - Eddie Smith
Mens Dbls - Gelder & Robson / Jim The Greek & Geoff Salter
Vetts - Eddie Smith (unless he runs out of steam) if goddy does not enter
Ladies Singles - Lyne Herrington (if enters)

Not so far actually. Thornbury is practicably a suburb of Bristol. Distance =14.3miles from Town Centre.
The Bristol TTA put on a junior training/exhibition on the Friday night. Coaches were, Joey Kennedy, Keith Williams, Clive Carthy and 2 very good females.
It was very diificult trying to explain my 10 year old daughter that they couldn't put this on every Friday. "But why?" came every reply

These things should be put on all the time if we are to encourage and improve the youngsters in the sport............... why indeed

A little word here, Not only is our illustrious Web Master a real contender in the Vetts league he is also an inventive creator of this site. He spends hours upon hours researching material and then there is the coding which even sends my eyes googly!

Basically what I am saying is Dave Robson deserves a round of applause for...

North East Vett Player
Creator of this site

It's crazy that one of the best players who lives in the county doesnt even know about the closed or when it is. Michae hahn said that i is in November. Where is my invite? Lets be honest.....most of the players who enter, arn't even from durham county. I can't even play cos of my leg but I was on facebook and saw people talking about it. I was just interested just to see if my fiancee could enter. Who is in charge of he county closed? It's 2 in in the morning and I deserve a rant and rave cos i have hada skin full.

No one should be invited to a county closed championship, whoever they are. They are about everyone in the county having the same chance to enter and win. Anyone who wants to enter has the same chance as anyone else to find out about when and where the tournament is. If the information isn't at TT centres, in handbooks or places like that then anyone who wants it can write to their county association or ring someone on the committee and get the information. But preferential treatment for individuals would be wrong.
I know there is a Yorkshire closed somewhere this year, I don't usually enter but if I wanted to I would do something about finding the information and not expect it to come through my door.

How can I enter if i dont know about it? It isnt advertised anywhere. I wasnt suggesting that i get a personal invite. Once apon a time the entry form used to come in the post.

You have a point there TS. Perhaps we as an information site should look at highlighting as many events as possible and relevant contact information to help our members.

Maybe if we get you to subscribe to an e-mailing list we can source your areas events.

Will look into this.

What about a bulk email to all match secretaries or tournament secs where available requesting they send a copy of their entry form to TTT for download or at least a link to there own site which could be posted here?

Now that's scary. I knew my sole purpose in lfe was to serve as a warning to others:bag:

Seriously, TTT seems to be read more than a lot of sites solely run for the local leagues, eg Oldham, Bury, Bolton from my neck of the woods so as a central point for these leagues to use, it would be ideal. Just loads more work for Dave but I'm sure he'd cope.

Oi! He ain't the only staff on here ya know! He has done an amazing job that is true but all the staff and all the member contributions make the site work. Be a bit sad and lonely if there was only DaveR on the perch! :resent:

Well done to everybody who contributes http://www.tabletennistalk.co.uk/forum/images/icons/clap.gif

This is all fine but, I play for county durham and have done since we re-entered the senior county championships about 7 years ago. We are now in the premier once again. The point i am making is that someone like me who is clearly committed to the county, knows nothing about the county closed.........when? where? who is the organiser etc? Another thing......if i didnt have the internet and am not aware of this website....Id be evenmore in the dark. Anyway......Im still none the wiser..........so DaveR or anyone else for that matter.....Do you know when it is and how to enter, because my fiancee wants to play? I just want to watch.

Well I did a bit of Googling and agree, no info anywhere. I even found this link which just simply doesn't work HERE (http://www.sportfocus.com/comdir/cditem.cfm?NID=62809)

Thinik there's a lot of work to be done everywhere.
