While listening to five live sport the other day I was interested to hear that the ruling body of cricket had outlawed the use of carbon fibre in cricket bats.
In the light of this do you think there is a case for table tennis to follow suit and only allow blades (paddle for you American types) to be made of WOOD only ????

Yes, as it would keep enforcement simple.
There's only supposed to be a small amount of carbon in the blades but who has the facilities and equipment to check?

I noted on a previous thread that rather than making the ball bigger to slow the rally down (if that is still the desire) they should look to restrict the equipment.

Personally I am not sure how much of a difference it would make and even if such a thing is practical. Tinykin is also right, checking and policing these things would take some work (does a blue strip necessarily mean carbon ?).

For the cricket bats the manufacturers have given a commitment not to make any new bats with carbon fibre in them........I take it this would work with TT blades. and as for old blades I'm sure the ITTF can keep a list of banned blades just as they do for rubbers........

I'm not advocating that carbon is banned by the way....just want to canvas the members views on the subject

I have a number of blades made from different woods (no artificial flavours added), and they vary in speed and weight considerably, ie slow and fast heavy ones, and the same for the light weights. I'm not sure that the blades with impurities added are much faster. Unless some else knows better?
