First off I would encourage anyone wanting to achieve a Goal to create a Blog of their own.
Table Tennis Talk is all about promoting the sport but part of any sport is health and wellbeing and fitness. Some of you are at the top of your sport in both skill and fitness but some of us are still striving to be.
On a personal note I have been to the Wolverhampton Vetts Tournament and was blown away by the players in their senior years still partaking in this wonderful sport. I really want a piece of that!
DaveR asked me to be part of this great site for my hidden technical skills (when he lets me tick a box) and my talkability. I'm hooked and want to take a more realistic role. I wanna play! http://tabletennistalk.co.uk/forum/images/icons/pingbat.gif
With this in mind I have set myself a tough Goal to run in a Marathon in 2010. OMG! :covereyes:The aim is to become fit enough to play Table Tennis seriously. OK I'll never be European Champion I'm sure but to play in a tournament and get to day two would be a dream come true.
Well get ready because my Blog begins.
P.S. Make the commitment and post yours too cos there's no going back gracefully!

Off I went with a brisk walk up my road. At the top there is a path tunnelled by trees which runs the back of about twenty houses. At the end of the path a bit more road until I meet ‘The Park’! It’s just a mid-town park but at 10pm at night in the pouring rain it was magnificent!
Nobody was clever (daft) enough to venture out for a jog around ‘The Park’ tonight so I pretty much had the place to myself. Jogging in a steady fashion I could really feel my lungs expanding in a way they haven’t in probably too many years. Splishing and splashing through the unavoidable puddles I was thinking I must be mad!
On the home run it seemed darker through the tunnelled path but that probably made me run that bit faster! The final decent back down my road was wonderful. I’m sat here and the proud owner of stitch! Not felt that for more years than I care to remember.
I’m almost ready for my bed now because my body tells me so!

I slept well and managed to get out of bed without too much effort but I know from past experience it's not the day after but the 2nd day after when the crippling muscle stiffness sets in and you feel like 150.
I'll be going for my 2nd run tonight if my trainers dry out...........No Wait! I have another pair I can wear so there's no excuses! :resent:
Everyone should take exercises but it has to be a form of exercises that you enjoy or you won't keep it up. I've spent shed loads of money joining gyms over the years but it's just not my thing, it's boring. Where as jogging you are outside and especially late on in the evening it's quite and fresh and surprisingly relaxing of the mind.
I strive to become fit enough to play Table Tennis as it's fun, competitive and a good crack so I'm told. http://tabletennistalk.co.uk/forum/images/icons/pingbat.gif Well I can't seem to beat Wolfy in the Quiz so perhaps one day I can raise his blood pressure around the table! :taz:

Doooooooooooooomed on that front maaaaatey - I hate running - I'll play sports all day long but running just feels like a chore.
Having said that I ran the Great North Run 3 years running - best time 1.32mins (with no training!). But there's only so much 'oggy oggy oggy' you can take - ruuuuuuuuuub!

Was a little lighter today, and warmer.
Following yet another long walk to 'The Park' I started to jog around it's boundary. Half way around I walked (I mean jogged) through a group of 8 lads and they very politely parted and gave me way. Jogging *coughs* back up the other side I again passed a group of 3 lads. I have to say maybe Wolfie was right that I need to be more careful. Tonight they were nice lads but it's not to say that tomorrow they may not be quite so!
Anyway I'm not giving up. I'm on a mission now and will have to find a way of getting there. Even if I am forced to running on the roads I will.
Isn't it strange how last night I noticed the tiniest detail of my surroundings and tonight all I noticed is my bum bouncing! :resent:

Carefull when running its the worst form of excersise in relation cardiovascular enegy source with joints taking pounding . Walking is a much more body friendly process and providing the distance is carefully interacted you will get the same results as running with less joint failure in later life - not that you seem old!

Hi all, just thought I'd let you know I haven't given up although what Mousy says is very true.
I'm finding that my right knee and ankle are indeed in pain when I jog. I am currently building up my strength and reducing my stature with swimming and walking so I am still aiming at a Marathon of some kind in 2010. Whether I'll run it or walk it remains to be seen but feel you have to have a tough, albeit realistic goal.
As long as I don't look like this in me shorts I'll be happy!

Think a triathalon might be better.. more cycling involved ,less running, something like a 5k run 25k bike and half mile swim, you dont want to end up with knees like me....

Well I'm afraid I'll have to put my training for the 2012 Olympics [coughs] I mean my 2010 Marathon attempt on hold for a week or two. Someone ran into the back of my car this morning and as a result I have Whiplash!
I got carted off to A&E on a board but I'm OK. Needless to say I was nearly in another accident when the Taxi driver taking me home decided to drive at speed over several speed humps. I yelped rather loudly and he nearly crashed the car looooool!
Anyhow I obviously can't jog for a little while. Swimming's OK mind so I will go for it again on Tuesday
My new Jog Buddy was gutted! :resent:
