Newham residents are invited to show off their smash, slice or topspin by taking part in an inter-community forum table tennis challenge.

The heats for both young people and adults will be held in a range of sports venues from December 1st - 8th, with the grand final on Sunday 9th December at Newham Leisure Centre, Prince Regent Lane.

Executive member for community forums, Councillor Richard Crawford, said: "Following the great success of the inter-forum football and athletics competitions we've decided to hold some different sports challenges. I encourage people of all ages and abilities to come along and join in the fun."

Anyone who lives or works in the community forum area can take part in their local competition. People can register now or just turn up on the day to get involved.

All competitions will be mixed sex and young people will be split into three age categories: eight to 12 years, 13 to 15 years and 16 to 18 years. Games will be singles matches with three games up to eleven points each.
The final on December 9 is set to be a fun day out for the whole family, with free health check-ups, entertainment, sports activities and refreshments.

Sixteen-year-old Anil Vekaria, a table tennis player with Newham Sports Academy, is excited about his sport.
He said: "I love playing so much and it's good to do something active instead of hanging around the streets. It's a great game because it's indoors and you can play all year round."

The community forum table tennis challenge is part of the borough-wide LIVE LIFE campaign, which aims to get people active in the community.
