Hello everyone .Just wanted to say hi. I haven,t played table tennis for along time.So when i was introduced to agame of table tennis iwasn,t sure if i could play or not.But to my surprise i found that i could play but i found it quite exhusting and i was sweating a lot. I need to practice on my serve and forehand shots and backhand shots. I find returning spinning serves a problem though and i need to buy my self a table tennis bat and join a club because iam quite keen on playing and improving my game. Any advice?:grin2:

Hi Daver, Sorry for taking so long to reply to your massage.Well iam mostly a back hand type of player. Imean itend to rely alot on backhand when it comes to returning shots. Ifind it difficult to return shots on my forehand. I want to improve on my forehand so that it can be just as reliable as my backhand. How do i go about improving my forehand.Returning a spinning serve is also a problem it usually end up in the net its really frustrating .Can you help any ideas!

For people relatiely new to the game who are having trouble returning spin I have some simple advice.
The ball will want to follow the bat, so aim where the opponents bat starts.
For example if my opponent serves and hits the ball in a downward motion (so the bat starts higher than it finishes) then when I hit the ball the ball will also want to go down. To counteract that I need to try to hit the ball up (do this by opening the bat face).
If my opponent serves and hits the ball in a sideways motion going from right to left then the ball will want to go left so I need to aim to the right.
It is not fool proof but is a bit of a guide.
Practise is they key though - eventually you will get used to the way the opponent hits the ball and will instinctively know how to counter it.
