Geoff Salter was once a very talented junior but due to clashes with officialdum he quit he quit to take the hippy trail in India Many reckoned he could have been England top twenty but que sera
More than 20 years ago whilst residing in the north Geoff watched a international match and decided to play again and after a 20 year gap and some long hard practise soon found himself moving up the veterans rankings but the amazing thing was he seemed to get better as he got older and about 4 years ago at a tournament he beat John Hilton
approaching bus pass age he entered a scotish open tournament about 6 weeks ago and lo and behold he won 3 events mens, vetts and doubles
where had he been for 20 years despite all the rumours I think he must have been on some training camps (TT )
nice one

I hope I'm still playing when I'm 75, just like Geoff....well done mate....I guess they don't have that rule in Scotland where you throw the ball up when you serve. Otherwise he would not have got through his group...Tee Hee

good one windmill........ i here he spent the next day at accident and emergency getting his fingers stitched back on!!!!!!! lol
75 he does not look a day over 70!!!!!!!
As I remember it, at the age of 16, Geoff was ranked 3, and still had a year to go as a junior when he 'retired'. At the time he was on schedule to become a top 10 senior player. In those days he had a spinny left-handed loop and kill, backed up by over-the-table counter-hitting with a punched backhand down the line.

Nice thread this and Geoff is a top guy, with a good spirit and has had some great wins with clive carthy and others in the mix aswell .............nice one Geoff ......
One little thing.............throw the blooming ball up on that slightly "iffy" serve !
In his early days he was also pretty good at 'Three Card Brag', the game of choice at most tournaments then.

I think that was his downfall with officialdum but i understand he could memorise cards as 4 his serve he played to the connie w rules as i believe he coached him
Yeh. At that time if you lived in South or West London, it was either Connie's place or Alan Lindsey's club in Fulham. You learnt to serve tight, loop high and play a blind hand.
