Yeah, eddy was keen to return, playing to much for other teams, ideal for us as he can replace me,steve begged us to let him sign as he wants to win the league at least once in his life..wilko phoned as alan is packing washington team in,but wilko only playing 3 games in a season to qualify for tournament..
both seem to prefer playing more in sunderland league...:fcb:

the only reason steve is signing for you is to protect his average !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. i personally think the good players should spread themselves around the clubs make the season more interesting.it is not a true reflection if you have andrew playing only 3 games steve only playing away games(so he does not have to pay any fees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).the team should play the whole season (where possible)everyone wants to play the top players to improve.:redcard:

Well said Neil and totally agree but the team formation has long been a point of debate in every area from time and memorial. The theory is spread the play and the games obviously would be better bet sadly this does not happen anymore, rather the total formation of a team that "romps" the league it happens to be involved in.

The problem aswell as the team winning easy is the way it happens with many teams not even turning up against that specific team whoever it happens to be at the time.......i would be curious to see how many 10 - 0 were " awarded" to Birtley .........not played but "awarded" i would assume it will be a high percentage or am wrong?

Happens in every league but dont think it can be stopped unless you adopt a seeded system which would probably take to much prganisation so we have to live with it and time will change things as it always does.

Birtley TT club is actually the old gateshead tt club and in the last 23 years have won the title about 14 times players I recall Eddie.Dale, Meadsy,Curry,Jacko, thorpey, gaza glue boy, godba,Sharkey<ali khandari and myself 2 name a few all played in winning championship sides Bradley Billington actually played 1 season but we were runners up
so pot belly pig it would be nice if u could join us

Mr Wilko

i would of loved to continue playing for thompsons insurance(washington) even if ed had of left for glory, i mean birtley (goddy must of offerd him a pint a game) but in alans defence he could not get a full team (wilkinson, smith, douglas, waldner & samsonov) to play every week and as last year we turned out a 2 man team 4 times there is no point unless we can field a full squad every game.

i was actually ringing pot belly pig to see if he was playing for bissett as i would of signed for him. i love playing top players (unlike some people) i would rather push myself against the top players and loose them all than play weak teams just to keep my average.

i have not put pen to paper as of yet (neil mc) (and to keep teams happy.)
so anyone who can make an offer i am open to discussion!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha

but will only be playing a few games as thompson has been my gaffer and family friend since i was a bairn playing with lusk and forster aged 14 and

Sadly the point is whizzing past the top of many heads here .............leagues over the years in any area are formed and retained by the "numbers" or "run of the mill players" however i do agree the samsinov and co squad you mentioned earlier would be a great team but sadly would not keep divisions and leagues supported, having said that Birtley will win that division once again with shining glory as the lads signing for them are great players.............

Mr Wilko

not to many teams though DaveR taking on new players once a team folds players disapear never to be seen again and as i am a young one dont want this to happen and would always prefer to play in northumberland league to sunderland as that is were i am from and who i represent in county so need a team to play for!!!!!!!

my point was i dont want glory just want to play and would much rather play the best players possible so if anyone agrees let me know and i will asses my options and keep players happy as i dont want to stop players like windmill, glue boy,FCB playing me as i enjoy the battles we have and would much rather be pushed than come home not even getting a sweat on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope i have got my pouint across in the right way and not huffed anyone?????

DaveR

You are as everyone is open to play wherever you feel the need and the choice takes you so as regards upsetting anyone .......it could never happen. You are to be applauded for your fighting spirit and will to win so nobody could ever question that.

The point on teams replenishing new players is good one as the "young" players are as you say your age (i mean that in a nice way!) but should be younger i think we would all agree..........its sad there is no young blood coming through the ranks in any sort of consistant flow nowadays.

As regards getting a sweat on when you reach retirement age like us old farts its hard not to get a sweat on playing any level.........we struggle on unfortunately because thats all we can do!

Your point is made and i agree Northumberland is your area so again i applaud your loyalty.

birtly is the best place to play...... YOU CAN LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROS AND ADMIRE. But i tell you what the one the looses games will feel like a real mug.. So come on guys lets start training and give them a run for their money.

HarryBelafonte

well this has put the cat among the pigeons.
:fcb:..
We only intended to sign eddy as he originally played for us but left 3 years ago to play for Alan thompsons team as he was just starting as a taxi driver and money was tight, alan gave him a very good deal.:rocker:

He is doing well now and felt he was under pressure to play every game in both the sunderland league and the northumberland leagueas you can imagine he has to earn a living and works most nights.:thtease:

he spoke to me last year as he still pracitces at birtley at least once a fortnight and said he was thinking about coming back to Birtley,I said he would be welcome and to let me know asap as this would be ideal as I was going to be unavailable due to injury until 2009. so gaining a decent player for a champ..

We had also lost Mark Jackson who returned to his native lemington and fcb only played 2 matches all year due to work commitments.
Leaving a squad of 3.:resent:

I think it was our best achievement to win the league last year with just me, gary glue ,boy and old timer dale. The amount of effort and organising just to get a team out ( as I also work 3 night a week) was immense.
As I have stated in previous posts,Gary and Dale played almost every game ond both increasd their average by 10 percent.I also work at Birtley leisure centre which helped no end as I managed to play some matches whilst there.:tomato:

I had no idea washington were going to drop their team,i still find this strange as they have the 2 Barellas, dave Blackburn, andrew wilki, and alan thompson a good squad if ever I saw one and more players than us.

Steve Penman asked me also last year about playing as his missus is expecting their first baby and he would like to play the away games only ( he also would not have to pay the £4 match fee for home games) ha ha, only kidding, again with myself and mark leving and fcb disinterested or working we needed 2 players to replace the 2 leaving.
Imagine my suprise when Wilko called as well to ask if he could sign,I said Birtley would get slated for basically signing the current County team but if he only wanted to play 3 games to qualify for local tourny thats fine by me. :bag:rather than lose him altogether.
I mean when he and eddy left their teams to play for £ nothing was said..
:woho:
Its also funny that the fist person to complain about top players playing for 1 team was a player of the Byker super teams of the 70s and 80s and has failed to support the local leagues for the last 20 years.:redcard:
Any way get your bids in as wilki is prepared to sign for anyone as long as they understand he can only play a few games..
Get your fingers out secretary s..:fcb:
Also in my opinion, seeding players to play in opposing teams will never be practical until local leagues are played in a central venue( same night each week).which I think is another positive ,to play a central venue.
Well get your teeth or gums into that one.....:tomato:

DaveR
06-30-2008, 01:45 PM
Cant argue with that !

Mr Wilko
06-30-2008, 07:50 PM
here here harry that is a good point!!!!!!!!

may i say that i didnt leave my team for ££££'s but as people know i have a family and have left my residence of North Shields and am now living in burnopfield which is only 20 minutes away from shiney and 10 minutes away from birtley rather than 40 away from shields and as lusk has been crocked by injury and i think retired from tt there was no one to play for at shields (bearing in mind the cost of petrol these days) and alan gave me a chance to play.

i only agreed to playing 3 games as i dont want glue boy and windmill to be pushed out of "their team" i would prefer to play more.

so as stated any offers i will think of my options as i would rather play the top players to prove my 3rd year as reining county champ is not a fluke!!!! plus i never win sunderland tourny so i just make up the numbers there.......... LOL

thanks DaveR for your statement much appriciated !!!!!

Neil MC

sorry Mr. Godbold I did not realize that because I have been out of the game for 20 years I am not entitled to an opinion or do you want to monopolies this site as well as the league.:redcard: .Only joking :daft: When byker was the top team we used to field the same team every week and we only had 2 to 3 good players not 7. anyway I don't think you get my point you just think people are having a go at you. I spoke to Eddie the other day and he wanted to play on a different team to Andrew as he was sick of Andrew saying he has beaten him in there last 2 encounters and wants to have some tough games for himself. Andrew if your looking for a club why don't you go to one who is short of players like Blaydon close to your home and with Gelder it would make another strong team in the league. But that's only my opinion which everyone is entitled to .:dance3:

HarryBelafonte
06-30-2008, 09:02 PM
Ha ha.not really bothered who plays for who,as long as i can play again in 2009.
yes your entitled to your opinion, shame it has ny been around for 20 years:static:
there are many factors why people play for teams,or not play at all as the case may be,its unfortunate that all these people want to play for us as we have the worst rep in the league.even our b team secretary wont play home games with us...
and as for good players gary and dale are rubbishhhhhhhhh.:woho::woho:
we must have a dual mr mac a shoot out,see you in 2009 if your have nt packed in again lol..........ha ha ha.:fcb:

Everyone's opinion is as important as the next. But let's at all times keep it dignified. Real life should always come first and only we, as individuals, can be judge of what is most important but having said that if you make a commitment to a team you should go into it knowing that you can afford the time and effort.

As with anything in life, start as you mean to go on.

No one is perfect but be as positive as you can be

i would not play for blaydon as i have never liked playing there and even now bryan is watching my games, plus Mr Gelder packs in more time than DaveR spits his doddy on a match night!!!!! (only kidding DaveR)

and Neil it is 2 years since ed beat me not our last 2 matches, shame i could be playing on the same team as him again next season!!!!!! LOL

oh and did i mention harry it will be 3 years by the time you return to the game since you beat me??? LOL but i will give you this, i would rather play ed any day than yourself as you can change your game!!!!!!!! HA HA

personally i think every one in the prem.league is a damb good player and very even in class and with the their own different styles, apart from ed wilko and gody which are a notch better, but they cant afford to relax either cause you got bart, rob the barellas and a few others right behind them. So i persanally think its more important trying to stay up in the league and keep playing this good players rather trying to win it. bit hard.

Without getting personal I just like to point out some facts in the past 40 years apart from 3 or 4 seasons u could pick out any 1 from 2 teams that was going 2 win the premiership and good players have always played to gether Lennie-Burn Hoyles-Kettlewell-Duncombe VAn Que-Clark Blackman-Robertson the list is endless Reyrolles Tyne Dock and a couple of other teams were outsiders when winning the premier actually a youg Godba with hair was 1 of their players so lads it aint new

DaveR
07-01-2008, 07:51 AM
Robstar you reinstated some sense into this thread well done!

Firstly everyone is entitled to play wherever they feel so as regards Birtley all i would say is its a good team and deserves to win if it does like any other .......i got no problems with that at all.

Secondly you certainly dont have to reinforce how good you are Mr Wilko as we all agree you will someday win the Sunderland Tournament as your still young enough to do it.

Thirdly did someone say Eddie was sick of Wilko saying he beats him? lol

Put that trumpet down Mr Wilko and let someone else blow it for you as the sound is always sweeter when that happens in life !

The bottom line is everyone as Jim states has a plus and negative but the sport would be very boring if it wasnt like that so i say alls good and keep the spirits flying high...............watch out wilko your heading for cliff edge! looooooooooool

Who are all thees BIG players making the big noises about signing for teams that are a-begging them "Pleeze, Pleeze sign for us - Oh Great One".
Sooo, they are reckoning that they are having the brains enough to write [they can certainly talk]. Mark a nice big 'X' on the dotted line.

I beleeve there is a British expression about people getting very far up their own backingsides, yes??

DSS have pulled out all the stops and broke there transfer record to push Birtley all the way for the title by signing Wilko (the trumpet player) adding to Bart (Belgian international senior coach) and Steve Gazza Penman after he was advised by Bart to stay just before he put pen to paper for Birtley.

And with the transfer window in full swing the scouts for the DSS have there work cut out with hopefully 2 more star signings on the cards!!!!!!

Its a good team yes but the way it was formed only 1 person knows. I will prefer to play in a team with my team mates watching my games giving support and me giving mine. even if im not as good as most, but i do try and respect the opposittion. SO now that i have diplomatically been thrown out of my team if there is any team in the prem. that needs a stand in or regular{ prefer} give me a call on 07740649962 because im out of a team.. cheers. of for a holiday monday hope i got a team when i get back or its golf again.

Well its good to have strong competition with the best players against each other surely rather than with?

Or am i way off base on this.

Where we play a trial has been set for a short term where top players are allocated to each team (maybe the wrong term) so the team has a good player at the helm making each team competing for honours.

The system however can only work realistically in a central venue where everyone is together because as we all know friends will play together when teams have set venues. The central venue is one i am still in very much favour with a good vibrant atmosphere creating better Table Tennis.

Thoughts?

HarryBelafonte
07-09-2008, 10:55 PM
agree, its all to do with a central venue..things are so much more flexible and achievable,we still dont have one in durham or northumberland league.............

There was a central venue up there a few year back with good results Daver said with a guy Bill Collier setting the organisation with good feedback.

yeah, played the league there a couple of seasons, was at the height of car twocking.someones car was stolen each week, this eventually caused the demise of the league...
sadly bill passed away a few years ago.

I have to say the sad thing was also that the twocking stopped and could have been a great thing again in my opinion with some fantastic matches and good atmosphere. The central venue worked at Seaburn and deffinitely worth a try again as the players can play anywhere with any team in theory with everyone being there at the same time.

Another good point is games cant be re-arranged as you know the night its played on and no excuse to not play, the team would simply forfeit if this happened but strangely when the teams did know the date and day each week nothing ever went wrong ........making the secratary job a lot easier aswell.

PS Sad loss and a great guy Bill Collier and had some good times in the British league .................. remember that Mylton Keynes match ! Im sure you forced me to drink to much and if i remember eat to much.

Peter lau swearing without knowing aswell lol

good times

Its a good team yes but the way it was formed only 1 person knows. I will prefer to play in a team with my team mates watching my games giving support and me giving mine. even if im not as good as most, but i do try and respect the opposittion. SO now that i have diplomatically been thrown out of my team if there is any team in the prem. that needs a stand in or regular{ prefer} give me a call on 07740649962 because im out of a team.. cheers. of for a holiday monday hope i got a team when i get back or its golf again.

I would like to set the record straight as ref above and comments made by another ex team mate!!!

I was asked if I would like to play at Birtley which was very tempting due to the chance of playing with some top players and considering a few problems i'd had with my team players last season decided it would be good to break away from that team. Then 2 of the members started to seek alternative club's and I was asked to stay at the club which I had been at for a few years. I tried to contact the 2 mentioned above but they ignored my calls and emails so couldnt advise what was happening. I then went Christmas Shopping and Santa has been extremley kind!!

The word Team means exactly that but I dont call a team mate who says that your opponent is playing bad against you beacuse you beat them and good against them beacuse they lost!!! Or using all your glue and taking rubbers off you which they have no intention of replacing. I do agree I am late for matches however, thats the game of Taxis you never can tell where your last fare is going to.

I had no intention of this whole situation turning into the joke that it has where people use this as an opportunity to put others down Whats all that about!!!!! and if my phone calls had been answered this would not of turned out this way.

Pauline should be number 2 steve !

Only kidding.

Ok lets get this straight and balanced teams will come and go but the sport is paramount. There is sometimes a little stress and tension when playing in teams with close friends with pressure to win and perform but the "support" aspect is one at any level that should be continuously given TO ANY TEAM MEMBER regardless of number or level of play.

There are some teams where wandering around because you are not playing seems to be the norm and not the unusual which is completely out of order in any team in any area.

Teams over the years have always and will always be assembled and vice versa because of the nature of spending seasons with team mates .....its inevitable that at some given point there will be some unrest and arguments, which ive seen in all levels including British league etc............the bottom line is can those concerned rise above the parapit and treat it as it is........sport with fun and participation being top of the list.

Im hoping players such as Jim etc can find teams to play in as teams lost are certainly not the way forward, with leagues and divisions shrinking in every sport you here of. The continuation and promotion of the sport is slightly higher than the little differences we all have at some stage when playing!

I as most who play love the sport (even when moaning as i often do) but have played on a team this season in the sunderland league whereby i had players such as my father who only won a mere 3 or 4 matches in a league last year..........and thats not easy to watch all season but the winning of the league was not the most important thing for those players ......the participation and playing however was.

Play the sport and promote the sport is pretty much my words nowadays as i have like many players more history than future so make the most of it in a positive way not a negative.

Well said and can be applied anywhere in any sport i would have thought.

Certainly applies to me, and yes promotion is the way forward with teams playing in harmony. This gives the younger players something to aspire to.

If the Club you refer to is Birtley it is in Birtley next to the "dobbies garden center" slightly further down the road.

There is a Table Tennis night in Sunderland at Sandhill Center which caters for every level plus coaching, open every Friday from approximately 6pm onwards to 9pm for cadets through to Adults / VETS etc

If you would like more information contact myself and i will arrange things for you.

Just a quick question for the boys at the DSS......Are you going to get the lights sorted out there for next season ?.........The temporary spotlights down the side of the table last season were shocking.....it was dark at one end and they shone in your eyes at the other.
