i think that it is a great training aid, and would be most beneficial to our club. I run a junior coaching club, about 16 juniors of all standards (girls as well), and at our next meeting will be putting forward a proposal to purchase one for the club................ i also feel, as good as robots are, for the beginner/intermediate player this return board could be better suited to them....

How does this differ from playing against a table in play back mode?
I would expect the return to have the opposite spin returned as to that played against it, ie top spin shots are returned as back spin - a bit like playing against anti spin rubber.
The return board gives you a bit more time to prepare for the return so it has that in it's favour.

What surface is on the board for example is the black a different rubber / style sponge etc

Just curious as to how the ball reacts when played against it as the forehand or bachand topspin against the board would return with a degree of backspin if this is the case which is probably why the young girl is having a slightly difficult time "lifting" the return shot.

I assume its possible to cover it with anything ............given the colors are correct plus you can buy the size relevant to the board.

The problem with the reverse spin coming back is that you need to overcome it with even more spin, and it then becomes a vicious circle.

The only shot I could play against a return board was a chop that rebounded back with top spin and was dragged down the back board on to the table. Although you chopped against top spin you still had to hit the ball with force to get it the rebound fast enough - and that would be toooo hard compared to normal match play.

The return board is a great tool in my opinion but as with everything has its place in the coaching and training. I have played against the same board and it is very user friendly with good returns plus a variable degree of both back and top spin.

I've just watched the video again, and the return balls seem to have a curve on them similar to a top spin return, rather than a chop float. I might have to try and knock one of these up myself using some old bat rubbers

My answers:
red rubber and black rubber have the same quality.
Both have 1.5 mm rubber spoge.
1.5 mm is a good control; particularly important for beginner.
2.2 mm sponge is a quick return to bad to learn.
1.5 mm sponge is a good feedback.
at 1.5 mm sponge remains more time to prepare for the next balles.
at 1.5 mm sponge remains more time to prepare for foot work.
you can better coordinate technique and foot work.

at 1.5 mm sponge you get a very good feetback.

the feedback a returnboards enables a higher quality of training as opposed to a robot.

returnboard enables ball ralleys
-- Returns with its own
-- With its own pace
-- With little good placement ---> much foot work
-- With better placement ----> many ralleys

RETURNBOARD - a very good opportunity for training technique!
