Over 40 people from around the region converged on the Halton Table Tennis Centre, on Saturday 5th July to take part in a table tennis competition that had been organised to raise funds in aid of Runcorn teenager Jade Carr and her Transplant Sport UK team mates. The competition was staged to coincide with the start of National Transplant Week and over £250 was raised which will help send Jade and the team to Australia for next years World Transplant Games, Jades parents Rob and Lynne Carr donated trophy’s and medals for the winning teams and all the competitors received certificates. Teams consisted of two players, but the format was a little different to usual, as not only did all competing teams have to consist of at least one junior player, but they also had to be of some relation to each other, it was felt that this format would encourage a family atmosphere and best portray what the event stood for. Everyone who competed on the day commented on how enjoyable it had been and how nice it was to see grandfathers playing with grandsons, mothers and fathers with sons and daughters and brothers etc., all forming teams. The Eden family from Warrington had three generations of their family taking part and had a “very enjoyable day”. The event was won by brothers Michael and Jamie Lunn from St Helens beating father and son Paul and James Clark from Billinge into second place. A consolation singles was also held and this was won by Jack Hunter-Spivey and Josh Wood who beat grandfather and grandson Peter Froes and Kieron Eager in a close final. Jade and her family would like to thank everyone who not only took part on the day but also those who had made donations and helped with organising and running the event.
