played in the Railway tournament the other week and one of my old rivals reminded me when i played in one 30 years ago in london I travelled to London left my sports bag at Liverpool street TT club and headed off to the Isle OF wight to c a mate who i usually kept in touch with twice a year only to find he had moved and i had left my wallet in sports bag I only had my train/ferry ticket and a couple of quid missed the last ferry and couldnot get BB on tick I went and say local bobby who couldnot help I sat crouched in a telephone box trying to get some kip and then caught the first ferry in the morning for a 11 o clock group actually managed to get to the final
Harry also reached the last 8 in lausanne sleeping on a wooden bench in a tenko type hut we used a old bake bean tin as a kettle and didnot have any blankets torches 4 the first 3 nights in fact harry was lucky to qualify he slept in got up at 8-40 for a 9-00 start got a taxi to the venue was unshowed and had no scran his opponents i believe rearranged the order of play or Harry might have been scratched (World vetts)
Max Crimmons once hitched through the nite from the south arrived in newcastle about 6am and won the Northumberland Open mind u he was very talented
