As a lead up to the Beijing Summer Olympics a custom built table tennis table is being towed around the streets and public spaces of five British Cities. The Global Player will encourage members of the public to stand their ground - reclaiming public space whilst creating an exciting community performance together. Challengers are encouraged to take winning seriously with game stats and edited video highlights being uploaded online at www.blindditch.org/globalplayer (http://www.blindditch.org/undefined/globalplayer)
Launched in Exeter, UK Aug 1st 2008 we are primed to reach all corners of the globe in the coming years. Current players speak English, German, Italian and French. To invite Global Player to tour through your home-town email Blind Ditch (other languages available on request).

Strengthened for purpose and fitted with a towbar for ease of pulling, the table is a specially designed art object constructed by sculptor John Packer (http://www.johnpacker.com/) out of recycled

Blind Ditch are taking their custom built table tennis table on tour in their public art performance “Global Player”, which is aimed at reclaiming public spaces and showing just what can be done with them, whilst creating community performances and having some fun along the way. Some of these performances along with game stats will be uploaded to their website, click here (http://www.blindditch.org/globalplayer).

The table itself is no ordinary piece of equipment, it is specially constructed by sculpture John packer from recycled bicycles parts.

In the lead up to the Beijing Olympics they will be touring British cities, before embarking on their world tour. For an interesting read and to keep up to date with how the reclamation of space is going, check out their blogs.
