We now have the contenders Ladies and Gentlemen. I hope Dave doesn't mind but I've revamped his original Poll with the top 20 qualifiers. I will keep the votes hidden until the final outcome.

Anybody heard of a certain Wang Liquin? Not a bad player guys!! Ridiculous Olympic qualification legislation meant he had to play in the qualification tournament for the games despite bing world ranked three. Surprised he wasn't in the original poll... Ok not on the same current form as Wang Hao over previous months but on his general standard makes him the best table tennis player on the planet. Three times world champion, world number one for longer than anybody else (accumalative weeks) in years... if he can hold his bottle he has got to be the real favourite for gold.

Well the the Mens team final has just finished and China look unstopable. I have no idea what the draw is like for the singles but it wouldn't surprise me if China take a 1,2,3 in the Mens Open. Wang Hao is on fire right now...although I want Ma Lin to win!

The only players who have the potential to upset the chinese dominance are Timo Boll and RYU Seung Min, and in my opinion neither player are looking particularly great!

Despite Timo Boll doing his best and winning a set in the singles and doubles, China won their second team table tennis gold with a score line of 3-0, this time at the downfall of second seeds Germany.

Hao Wang (CH) bt. Dimitrij Ovtcharov (GER) 3-0
Lin Ma (CH) bt. Timo Boll (GER) 3-1
Hao Wang/ Lin Ma (CH) bt. Christian Suss/ Timo Boll (GER) 3-1

Team Medals:
Gold. China
Silver. Germany
Bronze. South Korea (Korea Republic)

In a repeat of the Mean’s Team event, South Korea (Korea Republic) went out of the gold/silver play-offs and into the fight for Bronze, which they eventually won after thanks to wins over USA (3-1) and a 3-0 defeat of Japan.

In the gold/silver medal play offs it was China that was victorious as they defeated Singapore in convincing style 3-0, thanks to victories of 3-1, 3-1 and 3-0, will this be repeated when the men’s team face Germany?

Nan Wang (CHN) bt. Tianwei Feng (SIN) 3-1
Yining Zhang (CHN) bt. Jia Wei Li (SIN) 3-1
Yue Guo/Yining Zhang (CHN) bt. Yue Gu Wang/Jia Wei Li (SIN) 3-0

Gold. China
Silver. Singapore
Bronze. South Korea (Korea Republic)

Well the chinese women have done the 1,2,3 and only 42 year old Jorgen Persson stands in the way of the chinese men........
