I am pleased to announce that we now have the following integrated into the Table Tennis Talk Site :

A powerful Google Member Map.

This member map has the following features.

It can be used to plot your own username / location and "exact" spot in the world.

It can be used to search around the general world, plus zooms in.

It has Satallite, Hybrid and Normal Map viewing (which is set to normal by default but can be used in any for yourself)

.................................................. .......

Using and plotting yourself!

easy if you follow

1.......click on the "Google Member Map" tap at the top of site.

2.......You will see a map with some text saying Googlemap ME - Welcome to the vbgooglemap Member Edtion. Show Main Map, List Users, Your Entry, About Googlemap. Click on "your entry" to add yourself.

3.......Next fill out the "Marker Title" with your words / description etc.

4.......Now Fun!............The map in the box you can move around easily by putting your cursor on and dragging to your area etc then click on where you are and a balloon will pop on. Then zoom in to where you exactly are and you can keep pinpointing the balloon until its exactly in your back garden or wherever you want!
ps if you go to the "satellite" setting on the map you can view and zoom to exactly the street you live! zoom by the plus and minus on the left of map.

5.......Next Fill out the "Marker Text" With your words etc

6.......The image url is up to you leave blank or put in if you want an image.

7.......Next insert information at the bottom

The map in satellite mode can zoom into streets and even cars etc it is a very powerful application so have a try !

if you get stuck let me know i will assist.

Hope you enjoy !

Incredible piece of Mapping plus its zoom is worth trying just to see in someones front garden! Truly accurate plus absolutely fascinating.

Nice work may I say.
The best I have seen on a forum of any type.

Just had a quick look and interesting stuff. How do you apply such a map to normal website such as a personal one as i have been looking for something like this for ages. The integration you mention is the only way to do it other than have anyone enter details and thats not what i want. I am curious if its possible to code into html or is a technical job?

I believe you need to register with Google to get an API key. I've never used it myself, but I plan to in the future.

In these days where Ajax and Web 2.0 sites are commonplace, Google Maps is still the single most impressive application on the web by a mile.

It's great to see a few of you on the Map already but will be even better once we have a few from over seas as well

Chris is correct an API unique key is required then you can do the work need to add to site, one word of caution this isnt as easy as it looks and by that i mean the integration side. It is ok to add to a site but allowing only certain members or people to register is somewat technical. The system Dave seems to have is very clever and miles ahead of others but may not be easy to code if someone aint familiar with hard code.

Annie......HELP!!!!
It seems that my attempt to revise my Marker Text has not only put me in the correct location, but a second location puts me in the water between Spain and Italy. I wanted to add Phoenix, Az to the true location. So two questions. 1) How do you edit the Marker Text for the true location & 2) How do you delete the second location.

Thanx for putting me in my place. I don't know how much longer I would have been able to tread water.
P.S. had a pool at the old house but upgraded to a slip n side and a garden hose when we moved into this house.
