Mens And Womens Team Stages................1

All four groups in stage one of the Men's team events have now been completed, with the top two in the group getting through to the next round.
All of the group winners progressed to the next round with a maximum of 6 points as a result of 3 wins, in groups A-C the top three seeds in the event went through on top, it was only in Group D that their highest ranked seed, Hong Kong (ranked 4th), succumbed, this was at the hands of the 5th seeds Japan.
Teams progressing through to Stage 2 are as follows:
Group A:
1. China, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0
2. Austria, 0-3, 3-0, 3-0
Group B:
1. Germany, 3-1, 3-0, 3-0
2. Croatia, 0-3, 3-1, 3-0
Group C:
1. South Korea (Korea Republic), 3-1, 3-0, 3-0
2. Chinese Taipei, 1-3, 3-2, 3-1
Group D:
1. Japan, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0
2. Hong Kong, 0-3, 3-1, 3-0



In the women's team event there was yet more domination by the Chinese, who won in straight sets again and there was a repeat of the top seeds in each group finishing on top. The only upsets were in Groups B and C, where the USA ranked 9th beat the Netherlands (7th) for second place, but the biggest shock was when the lowest seed from group C Romania (13th) came through in second place thanks to a disastrous performance by Germany (6th), who lost all of their games and Poland (13th) who only managed one win.

1. Singapore, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0

Group C:

1. Korea Republic, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0

Stage ...2

The fight for the medals has begun in the team events.

Men's
In the quest for gold China will take on South Korea (Korean Republic), whilst Japan face Germany, the losers from which will go into the run off for Bronze, which has already seen Hong Kong beat Chinese Taipei 3-0 and Austria beat Croatia 3-1.

Women's
The Far East is guaranteed to take home the gold in the women's contest, with China against Hong Kong and South Korea (Korean Republic) versus Singapore.

The Bronze medal playoff has already seen its first two victors, Japan beat Austria 3-0 and the USA dispatched Romania 3-1.
