Hi All - nice site.

I'm just getting back into TT after a nearly 12 year break - Been playing for around 10months now and really struggling with the service rule change, ball size change, 11 up change and worst of all getting older, slower and somewhat rounder :)

Lets Face it we all had some difficulty changing with this new service rule, and as for the 40 mm ball i still know some that havnt changed !

So your a VETT then !

Sorry if your not as old as that, im guessing:snigger:

Shape it up and step in with the oldies !

Hey on a serious note the standard is high and getting higher all the time with the introduction of the new VETTS.

Mrs N. I have also been away for the game for a similar time and just started back.

I think the 11 rule is great. It seemed so far to get to 21 back then - especially when you had played about 16 points and it was 8-8 or 9-7 and you just felt like you had wasted the last 5 minutes and there was still miles to go. Also makes it much more tactical - a few good points against someone who you may condiser better and you could start to get on top - then they tighten up and you are in with a chance. In the old days you could go a few points up and they always had a chance to relax and get back into it.

Service doesn't seem to be a real problem though. To be really honest my memory is that most people fouled served back then (at my level anyway) and now most people still seem to foul serve. I'm not really sure if it's a problem.

Hi Browning, I do like the 11 up -my only problem is adjusting from being used to 21 up - the pace is different and the pressure is on right from the start.

The service rule used to allow you to serve under your arm and hide the contact point - I used to get lots of free points doing this, now you cant hide it at all so it makes the free points a little harder to come by.

I'm glad i started playing again though - really enjoying it cant wait to get my old game back and start improving. The 40mm ball seems to be much easier to play with, easier to return serves and counter loop against - the 38 used to go like a rocket! - also doesn't leave as much of a mark when you get one in the arm :)

The serve can be just as effective, but as with everything needs a lot of practice and effort............probably a good idea to have a little tutorial............now wheres my camera!

yup i've been working on a replacement service action - I've been practicing looads on perfecting a chop/float mid length serve. Trying to get it just right so its too short/low to loop or flick, and its too long to just drop back - not too much margin for error though.

The action i had previously, which was before the new service rule took quite a while to modify into a legal ish mode ................even n ow i still find it slightly harder to keep the forehand serve short unless wide ie to the right hand side, but as with everything has got better and better as prcticed.
